I visited this place twice in last 2 weeks. In both cases service was not the best in the meaning that the person working was making us favor Selling and preparing food. What turned me off today was the fact that when we arrived girl was smoking outside blocking the door when we came and ordered 2 pieces of quiche... More

Nice small place at the side of the Nieuwemarkt with wide choice of sandwiches and cakes. Most of them prepared on spot with fresh products. The carrot cake and apple pie was delicious while sitting at the window watching the crowed go by. For lunch or a coffee with cake this is a place that has reasonable prices compare to... More

Love this little café, very cute and great place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Found it on a visit last year and managed to find it again this time. Great sandwiches, cakes, coffee all made fresh. Had a meatloaf sandwich which was delicious. Lovely lady serving behind the counter too, who I think the place probably belongs to, you can tell she takes... More

We found this wandering around Amsterdam. It sold homemade food (which I love anyway). I had the vegetable quiche and it was glorious. It had goats cheese, spinach and onions mixed in. It was so tasty!! My friend had a ham and cheese toastie which was made with proper bread cut from a loaf rather than pre-sliced bread which also... More

Had a quick stop for a latte and a quiche. I love the fact you can take a seat from inside the cafe and have an open view of the canal and street outside. The food was great here. What a fab find! Big thumbs up!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Do you remember when you were very young and you got to spend an over-night at your favorite Grandmother's house, and you walked into her kitchen and there would be mysterious and intriguing looking freshly made foods lying around in her old-fashioned kitchen? That's what my visit to this obscure little gem reminded me of. It is on a main... More

Had a lovely lunch at this small place in the old town of Amsterdam. Food was excellent freshly made (toasted cheese and tomato and vegetarian quiche) and friendly staff. We also highly recommend the mint tee! We would have loved to try any of the cakes, but we resisted the temptation... Loved the decor (i.e. Barbarella movie poster) and view!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
