The restaurant is well designed, the service great and the food fantastic. Even if you are not visiting the museum it is a green oasis in the middle of the city. The history of the place is interesting and there are tours available.

We had a lovely lunch here recently. The main area is taken by a cafeteria but if like us you wanted a more formal lunch there is, if you are persistent and look hard, an smallervery attractive restaurant area beyond. The menu is limited but the day we visited the choice was ideal and went well with a bottle of... More

Even if you're not visiting the Hermitage Museum, its first-floor restaurant Neva is a good choice to have a bite to eat. At the far end of the restaurant, a few tables have been set for those wishing to eat the more elaborate Chef's Lunch. There is no menu for this two-course lunch, but it is always high quality even... More

Nice to conclude a visit to the Hermitage museum. Small "haute cuisine" portions, so not for the hungry.

We needed a quick lunch after seeing the "Russian Taste for French Art" exhibit, before heading to the Rijksmuseum. There seemed to be only sandwiches, a problem for my celiac friend. But after enquiry we learned that gluten-free bread was available on request. The sandwich for her came back freshly prepared from the kitchen, mine was assembled in front of... More

I used to love eating at Neva even if I were not visiting an exhibition at the Hermitage. Recently, Neva has changed to self-service and a reduced menu. It's still a fine space to sit, read a book and drink a glass of prosecco. The menu includes sandwiches and a soup of the day, plus desserts. But I miss the... More

We saw the exposition of Peter the Great at Hermitage Amsterdam and the lunch at Neva Restaurant was a great surprise. There is also an option of self service but we were offered a three course menu with salad, lamb neck and dessert with coffee. This was our option because the mâitre was so enthusiastic and helpful and we could... More

After enjoying the exhibit about Peter the Great, our group of three had a tasty lunch in the cafeteria at the Amsterdam Hermitage. The selection was adequate for our purposes.

While visiting the Van Gogh and Peter the Great Exhibits at the Hermitage we elected for a break and beverage. Neva has two areas; on is a more formal sit down area with table service, but they also have a cafeteria-style area. We had two glasses of sparkling wine and a dessert - one carrot cake and one decadent chocolate... More

Booked a table on weekday in the evening, based on the other reviews, and was not disappointed at all. Ordered the 5-course chef menu. on one hand, 3 of the 5 courses were not available, but very suitable alternatives were presented. Wine arrangement was very nice, it included even a Sauternes dessert wine. Only minor disappointment was that no re-fills... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
