When we walked through this area early in the morning, Cafe De Sluyswacht was not yet opened for business. As observed from outside, most of the tables were placed outside having nice views on the canal. By viewing the menu outside, most of which were connected with beer, snacks and coffee. Anyway, we took a few photos on the pub... More

Popped in here because it was raining when we walked past and I remembered that the bazza from the guided tour said it use to be a gate house. The place is lovely inside and has loads of outside seating. Very snug inside. We had nice Dutch beer and then we tried some bitterballen which I would recommend. Nice service... More

After a great morning and early afternoon walking about and visiting tourist attractions this cafe was a great spot to rest up and have a drink and some snacks. Limited amount of tables inside but our timing was perfect. It was a cool day and it was nice and cozy inside. There is seating outside. Some with heat lamps overhead.... More

Tourist trap! Beers and are expensive and staff is rude and unfriendly! We left as fast as we could, much better places out there in Amsterdam!

The wonky pub. We sat outside under the heaters as inside was full. They had nice fruit beers but they had no cider. It's a quirky little place. Watch the front door though, it's heavy and slams quickly behind you.

We called in to this place on a Saturday night for a quick drink after passing it on a earlier canal cruise and it being close to our hotel. The building itself leans which adds to its character. The pub was very busy which is to expected on a Saturday night and seemed to have a good vibe.

I stumbled across this place with friends in Amsterdam and was drawn in by its character and leaning presence in an otherwise quiet area. We didn't stop for food, only a quiet drink or two after feeling a little worse for wear from the previous night but the beer selection was great and the place was very quirky with great... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
