I was told about this place by a Swiss Air flight crew while en route to Cameroon. The crew prefer to stock up on Hiltl food before doing a trip. I followed their advice and the broad vegetarian offer is a great antidote to aeroplane...food. It really gets busy but worth the effort to get in.More

Knowing its the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world just makes it a must do in itself. Not sure about you but I love all you can eats/buffets which is very limited for vegetarians so this made it doable. It's not badly priced for Switzerland...considering it's an expensivene city in itself anyway. Weigh and pay, I went for Asian cuisine (there are many to choose from) and I paid 22 francs for a good sized plate. Comparable to their a la carte menu which is ~25-30. Tasted super good too and many vegan options!!! AmazingMore

This is a place that must be visited. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is fantastic. It is good for solos, couples and business lunches. Their quality has remained consistent for the past ten years. Their service is so good that they have opened...several equally good restaurants around Zurich.More

The food at Hiltl is fantastic. But what is absolutely shocking and inexcusable is the Hiltl’s (Sihlstrasse) lack of COVID-19 safety measures. There was no indication or mention of the Laut Vorschriften des Kantons Zürich gilt eine Registrierungspflicht, which is indicated on their website. Once...inside near the buffet, the scene was a chaotic mess. Diners walked around the buffet like vultures, some wearing face masks, but many not wearing a face covering at all. People were walking in all directions in the sardine-can-space around the buffet although there are directional guidelines taped to the floor. Food is placed to the left & right of the diners, on multilevel shelves, encouraging guests to serve themselves by standing extremely close to other guests and reaching over them to fill their plates. Diners, without masks, were squeezing in between me and others, which was a small space to begin with. An almost surreal sense of impatience and gluttony prevailed. The scene would have been shocking even in normal times, but the way Hiltl totally ignores the significance of face coverings while guests hover over fresh food, and totally ignores social distancing regulations is, in today’s world, nothing short of scandalous for a food empire which advocates healthy eating.More

Nice food, ample buffet, quick and efficient service, perfect carrot juice with ginger, friendly staff, comfortable and clean tables, mango mousse and chocolate cream not to be forgotten, what else can one ask ? One criticism : why no Hilt in Geneva ? It would...be a smashing success if they opened one in Calvin's town instead of in Zwingli's only !More

We opted for the buffet style food. I went for Indian curries, with rice and Naan (a roti). The eggplant curry turned out to be really distasteful. The other dishes were ok, but nothing special. My wife came to the same conclusion for the Thai...curry and some other dishes: mediocre quality. Her juice was good, but the mineral water that I had tasted strange. (Allegra 47 cl, 6,50 francs.) Tapwater in Zurich is not great, but a lot better. I explained to the waitress why I didn't tip her. Rather late, she recommended the a la carte menu, which was supposed to be better. I doubt that this kind of food would be any better if served fresh. As for the water, she'd been happy to serve me a glass of Leitungswasser. The bill was 73,80. In the past year, I've eaten vegetarian food in ethnic restaurants in Berlin and London. Twice as good, for half the price. The prices are a swiss problem, I don't complain about that. But I do think Hiltl should do something about the quality of their food.More

Didn't know what to order - the waitress recommended "Züri Gschnötzlets", veggie style. Big surprise: meat was perfectly replaced by saitan mushrooms. Just perfect.

As it is the oldest vegetarian venue in Zürich, they know vegetarian food! This place has enough offerings to delight the vegetarian soul. There was a time when I visited this place a few times in one day, so you can brunch, dine or snack....Several locations offer different dining experiences. Close to the Bahnhofstrasse, the main Haus offers a sumptuous buffet and a la carte menu which is slightly more expensive, so its a family favourite. Cooking courses offered as well. Then there is a Dachterrasse, by the see, by the beach and so on, all have delicious vegetarian offerings. Service has always been good and hygiene, well, it's a Swiss venue, so what can I say? The price is reasonable by Swiss standards but may be expensive for tourists. Buffet lunch can cost around CHF 30! The buffet selection is ENORMOUS so I tend to get over-excited, I'd say, choose well! You must not forget your desert. Mangoes, cheesecakes, clafoutis... heaven! En guete!!!More

I made reservations online for a party of 8. My group is not vegetarian, but we decided to try it anyways for a light lunch. I walked in at my reservation time, I still had to wait a few minutes, It was quite stuffy in...the restaurant so we opted to wait outside. I went back to the counter to check the status of my reservation and they told me that I would be seated now. They walked us upstairs to a very spacious table to accommodate all 8 adults. There was a nice coat rack to hang our clothes and a window which we opened slightly to let fresh air in. We had the option to either weigh our food and pay the amount or do an all you can eat for a fixed price. My group had differing arguments about the price especially since we did not know what to expect. 2 of us decided to do the all you can eat and the remaining wanted to weight their plates. The waitress was okay with the decision and we proceeded to the buffet area. As you weighed your food on the scale a ticket would be given. The food options were immense, so much variety even though I have been to several vegetarian restaurants myself. The healthy options and food quality was exceptional and the mango lassi to top it off. It was a great option for our group because we did not waste food and fill our plates to the brim just because it was a buffet, it made us cautious of our portion. Would love to come back the next time I am in Zurich.More

Not as standard fare in the buffet as far as I’m aware as that is a specific dietary requirement which they may accommodate upon request.
