Traditional Swiss food - fondue, raclette, meat with roesti, steaks, sausages, schnitzel, salads. Most menus come in two sizes (different amount of meat). Service is quick and professional. Tables are a little small and four people will struggle around most of them. Some menus are a little 'gimmicky' - double the size of a Wienerschnitzel done in butter at the... More

Had the restaurant recommended by a local - walked in and smelled cheese fondue - smelled very good! I ordered the veal ala Zurich - it was excellent! Came with a side a fresh vegetables and potatoes. The service was attentive and although the restaurant is probably a bit touristy - for the price it was a winner!

I am not a cheese fan and the last time I had fondue in Switzerland was over 20 years ago. I decided to try this dish again even though I come to Basel every year for the past few years. Asking my local colleagues, they were unanimous in suggesting this restaurant. So this is an institution for fondue. I visited... More

We were there today and had a classic fondue and a mini banana split (which turned out to be anything except mini LOL). The waiter was a real gentleman and very kind. We were very satisfied with the ambiente too (a beautiful old swiss house). The fondue was very tasty, but damn was it expensive guys... Even for Swiss standards,... More

Fine dining in traditional Swiss ambience. Recommend this for traditional Swiss cuisine. Enjoyed the fish and prawns here.

We had made a reservation for 20 colleagues for cheese fondue. We had sent an email for booking and we got offered various options of menu. We opted for the famous Swiss cheese fondue (no starter and no dessert) as our budget was limited. When we got there, they served us salad without asking and charged 12chf per person (even... More

If you've never been to Switzerland and are hankering for some Valais specialties, then go no further than Walliser Kanne. While I'm certain that the locals can point you to other restaurants in Basel that will fit the bill, I would say that the combination of the food and environment give this place my recommendation. It doesn't hurt that it's... More

Our visit at the Walliser Kanne in Basel downtown was great. We especially enjoyed the cheese fondue with mushrooms and the cheese fondue with champagne and had a good white wine which was recommended by the staff. Very nice rustic atmosphere, definetly recommended for both business visits and meals with friends.

Fantastic service, good fondue, nice carpaccio, salad, and maybe a glass or two more wine wine than I should have had, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Was recommended by a Swiss friend who knows..., and he knew! Will be back in Basel soon and will go here again.

It's a very nice typically Swiss restaurant with very nice ambiance (a lot of wood) and very yummy food. A bit pricey, though (welcome to Switzerland!). Tip: try the liver either if you're a liver fan or not so much. It's really delicious!
