We had dinner at this nice restaurant inside the walled town of San Gimignano; great food from local cuisine; it's really difficult to order something that isn't tasty! Go for the meat and you won't mistake it!

Arrived in San Gimignano to very heavy rain. We decided to have lunch waiting for the rain to pass. What a great find. We were seated at a window seat so we could look out on to the street. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very busy but we were looked after in no time.... More

The Tuscan food tends to be from the land and quite rich. Casseroles and slow cooked food. The venison was excellent, succulent and very tender. You will have a good meal here.

After finding this gem we couldn't resist but go two nights in a row. Amazing carbonara truffle pasta was our highlight although we tried a few dishes and they were all great. You must try the desserts as well as they are truly the perfect end to the meal.

This was probably our best overall dining experience during our 2 weeks in Italy. The food quality was top notch for every course. We especially enjoyed the pici with ragu, the traditional ribollita soup, and the osso bucco. Service was friendlier and more professional than certain competitors (hint hint). Dining room was lovely, tastefully appointed and comfortable. Great place for... More

We stumbled upon this great little restaurant by accident, and luckily managed to get a table, even though it was Easter Sunday. Inside is very romantic with beautiful vaulted ceilings and subdued lighting. We ate the carbonara with truffle which was to die for, followed by venison with porcini mushrooms. Everything was absolutely delicious. We would definitely go there again... More

We had really excellent pasta with wild boar ragu and beef/pork ragu. These are simple dishes you can find in most restaurants in the area. We tried a lot of them over the years. But we all agreed the quality of the ones we had at la mangiatoia was outstanding: highest quality ingredients very nicely cooked and spiced. Nice and... More

The place is very well located near the center but just 1/2 a block away from the crowds,we had lunch outside(great weather),but inside the place is very elegant and intimate. The staff was very dedicated and know every dish in the menu, even the way they prepared them.I had the wild boar and it was the best ever I had anywhere. We sampled... Description
The Renaissance banquets at the Medici court with game and vegetables of the lands of Tuscany come back to life in The Manger restaurant menu in the center of San Gimignano. In Via Mainardi in the stables of an ancient building, Susi and Paul Nannelli have recreated the atmosphere of other times, offering a cuisine that is inspired precisely by the ancient recipes reworked in a modern way: fillet of venison with vin santo and mushrooms, Wild Boar Remigio de 'Nannini and wild boar in sweet and sour sauce are just some of the unusual dishes to try for sure. The restaurant is run by Mrs. Susi who chooses only local products for the preparation of the dishes presented to guests with care even in appearance. Do not miss the Tuscan specialties such as Ribollita or pappardelle with wild boar, much loved by foreign tourists who visit the locale.Il restaurant is located in the historical center a few steps from Piazza Sant'Agostino in a living room with stone walls and brick arches ancients. The atmosphere is rustic and elegant and is eaten with a background in classical music. In summer there stands outdoors to enjoy in addition to the kitchen even the atmosphere of the medieval village. The management is friendly: the spouses Nannelli together with their daughters Annalisa and Giulia will welcome you with kindness and cordiality.
