The staff are very friendly. Pizza was really good, thin base crispy and tasty. Pasta was also good but nothing exceptional. Prices are average.

After arriving at our hotel late and tired we wanted a quick but tasty dinner and Funiculi was spot on! No frills but great pizza (other things on the menu too) and friendly service, wine was also good value. Highly recommended for a fuel stop!!

On my recent trip to Florence, I ate two meals at Funiculi. Both meals were delicious - I opted for a pizza on the first visit, and pasta oglio pepperoncini on the second. Yummy! Wine was good, too. Since it's a little out of the busyness of Florence, there weren't any tourists there. If it's good for the Florentines, it's... More

After reading some reviews, I decided to go with my Dad last night. It's not in a touristy location, and therefore there is mostly only local Italians that go to eat there, which is always a good sign. Delicious pizza, and good service! I think people on this site have never eaten in Italy before, because Italian service isn't like... More

This pizzeria has multiple large dining areas so you don't feel crammed in. The service is nice, and the pizza is great. Also there are relatively few tourists given it is slightly outside the frenetic center (but still within the old gate to Prato).

Never seen this before... We ask for two pizzas and penne with ham. The first pizza came in to table about 5 minutes and penne 2 minutes later. After ate the first pizza and penne, I had to ask what was going wrong with the second. Thirty minutes later it just arrived... When we finished the dinner, the employer ask... More

I first came to Funiculi in 2013 and went repeatedly everyday for a week for either lunch or dinner. I came back after two years and I think the pizza was better than I even remembered. I was shocked to see a negative review for this pizza place. I come from New York- so I think my opinion on pizza... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
