This is a typical tourist restaurant. The sandwiches and desserts are reasonably priced leading you to purchase your drinks without asking the cost. I selected a 14-ounce beer and my spouse had a coffee Americana. The waitress insisted I had the 8 Euro 20-ounce beer. The 14-ounce was 4 Euro. The coffee was 4 Euro. They also charge you 1 Euro... They speak english until the point that interests them. After that, they pretend they are not understanding you. They didn't say anything about a fee that you have to pay for sitting. It costs 1 euro more for each product you consume while sitting, and you cannot find that info in English anywhere. I see that we, as tourists, are... More

We had a perfectly decent lunch here after visiting the Museo San Marco. The Tuscan Vegetable Soup was more solid than liquid, but I guess that's how it's meant to be. A good half bottle of wine, which I subsequently saw on other restaurant menus at higher prices.

I didn't check TA before dining here because it was a spontaneous decision brought on by rain and wind. We had passed by before and checked out the "buffet". We don't usually eat from buffets and this one looked particularly unappetizing. We went on to look at other places and were coming back when weather took a turn for the... More

My husband and I stopped here before going to Musee di San Marco, and are so glad we did! The past week we had been eating a lot of pastries for breakfast, but this place has egg sandwiches with cheese and spinach on a delicious roll. We each got one, and they heated them up and brought them to a... More

It was convenient to the apartment we rented and looked nice. The waiter said we could do the "all you can eat" buffet for €10 which included one drink. The beer and prosecco were fine, but the buffet was substandard. The selection was poor, the hot items were not hot and there was little in the way of salad or... More

On our walk to the Galeria Academia to see The David (which by the was closed on Monday so we've missed out) we stopped off at this TERRIBLE PLACE. We had 2 small cakes and a bowl of gelati each containing 3 small scoops. I almost fainted when we were given the bill of 18 Euro = $30 Australian- for... More

This restaurant is situated on Piazza San Marco, which is a nice place. But the food here was very expensive, a lot more than just a bit further down the street. Good food.

We stopped here while killing time to visit the Accademia and it is a spaciuous and well stocked Cafe. Usual blend of pastries, sandwiches, small bites along with tea, coffee and alcoholic drinks. It's expensive for what it is, but I guess it is where it is that drives the price. If you're in the area and need to kill... More

I agree with most of the negative reviews. This place is really awful. It is basically a trap for those needing a refreshment after visiting the Academia or the San Marco Museum. We had the worst cappuccino ever (4 euro). Italy is know for having one of the best coffees, but what they served us was basically hot milk with... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
