I have to Il Profeta many times over the years and I have never been disappointed, the owner goes out of his way to make everyone feel special and the food is fresh and fantastic !

A girlfriend & I went to this restaurant on the suggestion of a friend. Greeted by one of the owners who took us to a wonderful table. We decided to share choices & they were very accommodating. Dinner started with a slice of local bread grilled with their special olive oil over the top. It has a slight spicy flavor.... More

From the greeting by the owner to the dessert, we felt like family - excellent food and menu - we went as part of a tour but were treated like royalty

This place has very high reviews, but in my opinion is very overhyped. Seems like they are trying to be a western restaurant to justify their very high prices. The meal will be at least $100 for a comparable meal to something that you will pay $50 for down the street. Other reviewers stated that their speciality noodle dish is... More

Cannot understand how people could rave about their house special appetizer and "John Travolta" secret recipe pasta!!! The pasta costed 32 euro for 6 pieces of pasta in an over-powering creamy source. It tasted less than average. Wish we had ordered the pasta with seasonal mushroom for 14 Euro. The house appetizer was just like one reviewer said - just... More

Returning to Florence, after an absence of about ten years, our first meal was lunch at Il Profeta. I had been a regular diner at Il Profeta both as a tourist and for business through the '80s and '90s. The owner now is the nephew of the previous owner and remembered me from his time as a waiter there years... More

We had a wonderful dinner at Il Profeta this evening. It is a restaurant that I highly recommend. It was a wonderful location - near our hotel - Westin Excelsior - and we were able to walk there. We started with appetizer - prociutto, burrata and melon for my husband, and Rustica for me with fabulous little tastes of different... More

We stumbled upon this restaurant during an evening walk and luckily walked in and managed to get a table without a reservation. The place filled up quickly very shortly thereafter. The service was great and the menu was explained to us with patience and in a good amount of detail. Being vegetarians wasn't a problem as there was an ample... More

This restaurant was close to our hotel and received good reviews so we decided to try it. The food and service were both so excellent we decided to go back the next night. We were treated like old friends. I was having a pasta dish but my husband and daughter were not so they brought them each a taste of... More

I stumbled upon this restaurant about 10 years ago and vowed I would return to have one of their signature dishes (a creamy pasta served in a parmesan bowl). This was our *first* stop when we arrived in Florence for our August 2016 trip. It did not disappoint! Upon the owner, Claudio, hearing that I was a return guest, he... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
