Went on spec based on Lonely Planet reference. Fantastic food, friendly, old-fashioned courteous service from owner and a very good waitress. Food quality, quantity and presentation top class. It is a simple, small, unpretentious restaurant but beautifully decorated with vaulted ceiling and modern paintings on the walls.

We lunched here - delicious deep-fried skewers of courgette, squid and prawns; pasta with vongole; seadas (local pudding made of mild cheese in pastry, deep-fried and then served with local honey). Charming service, pretty outside terrace and cool air-conditioned interior. Very good value for money.

We were hosted by a local businessman: we had the 6 sea food starters all very fresh and needing nothing to add, so delicious and natural test. To follow we had 1/2 portions of a fish soup and spaghetti alla bottarega. Amazingly delicious!

We went on monday and I was a bit disappointed that the fish options were limited, but the nice wine, the ambience and the staff made me feel better. The spaghetti my wife had (with shrimps and cherry tomatoes) was delicius. My mixed sea plate was average, squid and shrimps delicious, but the small fish on the plate was of... More

Around 10 years ago, we were travelling round Sardinia for the first time and we spent a weekend in Sassari. There we found the worst hotel and the best restaurant of our holiday. The hotel (Giusy) has gone and won't be missed. We thought the restaurant had gone too - but La Vela Latina is still there and still serving... More

We have visited the Vela many times during the last five years and every time it's wonderful experience. In the summer you can sit outside at a small piazza in the shadow under a parasol and enjoy. The restaurant is especially good at fish and has very nice white wines from Sardegna. The staff is vey competent and friendly.

Don't think about "nouvelle cousine" when you step into this tiny, obscure, door in the old part of Sassari. This place offers traditional local seafood dishes, perfectly executed, essential and very tasty. This doesn't mean that the ambiance or the service is shabby or too "friendly" (in the wrong way). As a good captain the owner Francesco's pilots the ship... More

Been to Sassari while returnig from the weekend trip to Stintino and luckily we stumbled upon this great tratoria. First we stopped in a restaurant on the main square, just a couple of minutes from this tratoria. When we entered this first restaurant it was crowded with tourists, no menu in English...so after a couple of minutes we decided to... More

I have been to La Vela Latina about one month ago. As a starter, I had Banderillas (fried zucchini, squid and shrimps), which were average, I would say ok-ish. As a main, I instead ordered spaghetti with bottarga (mullet eggs) and clams. The pasta was slightly overcooked, clams were tasteless, and there was not much bottarga either. I understand it...
