The fact that most of the customers appeared to be locals is usually a good indication. The barmaid there Natasha was absolutely lovely and very welcoming but I can't say that about the owner Pablo. He is obviously very popular with the locals but appeared to have some disdain for tourists, probably because he doesn't need them. It's quite small but... More

Nice simple menu of Italian seafood. I really enjoyed the sea bass. My kids had seafood pasta. Two others had lasagna. They enjoyed the house wines as well.

Had the best tuna I've ever eaten. Manager was extremely helpful, the service was perfect and the food was excellent. Great home cooked food, simple yet perfectly flavoured. Can't recommend enough.

Small "bacato & restaurant" with great food!! We tasted some "moeche" (the soft shell crab, venetian version, smaller and much testier the the usual ones!!) and also the "granseola" (spider crab fished next the Laguna): both great!! Something you cannot miss is the "sgroppino" at the end of the meal. It is a must. Prepared just for you at the... More

Had a great dinner for our last night in Italy! Both my husband and I were beyond impressed with the atmosphere, staff, and the FOOD!! Seafood pasta and beef filet were both fantastic! Perfect place to get dinner while in Venice!

Found this hidden Venitian restaurant in one of the backstreets in San Marco. We had the scallops as appetizer, as suggested by our waiter and it was delicious. Afterwards we had the Spigola (seabass) in salt, it was not on the menu but if you ask for it they'll make it for you. It was fall of the bone moist... More

We were shopping nearby and asked the proprietor of a shop if there was somewhere nearby that had good cichetti. He recommended "Fiore" enthusiastically, so, we stopped by and were pleased with the wide selection available. It's a tight squeeze and was crowded with locals. That's always a good sign to me. We try to stay away from the touristic... More

Food sounded nice but didn't quite deliver. I had the typical black ink cuttlefish and it was... well a bit too much of everything (ink, salt). Atmosphere was a bit flat in the restaurant, but seem better in the bar...

Description
You may fall upon Trattoria Da Fiore restaurant in Venice with cries of delight not only is it a charming, laid-back trattoria run by a native Venetian family, it is also incredibly affordable for this high-ticket city. Near Piazza San Marco, too, so its perfect for every kind of tourist or business noshing. A small, historic, charming spot with a separate space for those who wish to just nibble cichetti and drink a glass of wine, Trattoria Da Fiore has the beamed ceilings, warm plastered walls and dark wood seating and white table linens all typical of Venetian eateries. The menu is Italian and Sergio and his two children pay particular attention to the choice of wines. The house specialty is pennette da Fiore for two with olive oil, garlic and seven seasonal vegetables, though some swear by the zuppa di pesce alla chef brimming with just about everything that swims, perhaps followed by sgroppino al limone to finish. Youll find Trattoria Da Fiore full of both tourists and locals, and something of a triumph.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
