Outside tables with magnificent view. Sardines, spaghetti with clams, calamari appetizer & main course squid were excellent. Try the squid prepared traditionally....You'll be surprised, really!

I had dinner here with a friend the other day and the fish and sea food were excellent as also the wines and service. This is on the Giudecca island not on the main island of Venice. you need to take the No 2 Vaporetto line and alight at Palanca. Then walk along the waterfront towards Redentore and you will... Enjoyed our visit. Only marking it down because my plate was cold and my partner's spaghetti could have been spicier! However, good service very nice wine, small but well formed menu and my wild bore with polenta main course was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Three years on and we were further impressed. Outstanding food, prepared with imagination and presented well. Friendly waiting staff and relaxed environment. Excellent specials and wonderful home-made bigoli pasta. Staying on Giudecca? - eat here!

We’ve been visiting the Venice Carnival for years and staying on Giudecca island which is a short boat ride from Saint Mark’s. The advantage of Giudecca is that it’s less hectic than Venice and the restaurants seem to be better … both at the top end (Ai Cacciatori) and the more down-to-earth end (the pizzeria). We have visited Ai Cacciatori... More

we were recognised and greeted after almost two years since our last visit. The food and service were excellent. Never looked at the menu always trusted the recommendation of the daily specials. Always check that the restaurant is open before we book the hotel. Can't wait to go back.

... in a classy restaurant on the waterfront. The tonno with grapefruit was so good! A bit more expensive, but hey, when the occasion calls for it ...

Quiet trattoria in the jiudecca neighboorhood. Excellent vegetable pie, fresh homemade pasta with funghi porcini and tartuffo and risotto. Service like the trattoria; cozy and quiet. Superb house wine for 19 € / bottle (red borgolino). In a rainy day it was a beautiful experience.

Even if you're not staying in Giudecca itself, this is well worth taking the trouble to get to. Excellent views across the canal, wonderful food. We felt we'd done the right thing in booking, on a Saturday night in January, so I think this would be very prudent indeed at other times of the year. It was good value, too... More

Staying in Giudecca

Neighbourhood Profile
Giudecca is a retreat for Venetians away from the crowds. Symbolically, six metal teeth represent Venice’s six sestieri (districts); the seventh, Guidecca, points away from the others – part of Dorsoduro, but separated by the Giudecca Canal. Giudecca evolved from a center of shipyards and factories to a quiet residential area with a sprinkling of restaurants and bars. The majestic harmonious Redentore church stands as thanks for delivering Venice from the plague, hosting an annual heartfelt festival.
