Even though we reserved a table for two, we had two share it with another couple. This is not so bad, ok, local place, people are close to each other etc. But the problem was (@9pm), anything we ordered was finished already. I don't remember maybe they brought some starter but even there was no bread. That is not acceptable.... More

We were in Venice for a short weekend and we were so lucky to find this restaurant. Venice is packed with restaurants reaping off tourists with high prices and rather modest food quality. But this place is a hidden gem providing a genuine Italian food. We had no reservation, it was packed but finally managed to get seated. Very warm... More

Went here twice over a weekend trip. Ordered too much the first time so tried to get it right the second visit. Great starter sharer plate of tremendous selection of seafood and vegetables - very popular dish. Shellfish spaghetti delicious. Not so keen on the spaghetti in Venetian sauce which turned out to be a plate of spaghetti "flavoured with"... More

Nice place, not very touristic and location not very central but great seafood. Highly recommended when in Venice.

Top place in Venice where to have some great food without being ripped off in a such touristic city! Really typical and folkloric place, now getting more and more crowded since mentioned on all the major guides. Huge portions of lovely seasonal fish wait for you in this place, where you can sit down also to enjoy a glass of... More

Just a couple of streets along from our hotel, we happened upon this great unassuming and relaxed restaurant. We visited twice during the week, and as we hadn't booked, were seated with others couples each time to make up a 4, which I'm not the biggest fan of...However, the food is really good; lovely, fresh octopus salad and mixed fish... Great genuine and laid back place. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming - we had to wait 10min to be seated and were offered a glass of the house wine meanwhile. We then shared a table with another couple, adding to the uncomplicated feel of the place. Food was tasty and authentic. Ordered the sole as a main dish, portion was... More

I'd seen this place on TA so when we happened to be in that vicinity, we grabbed an outside table for early lunch (and beat the crowds). I had the platter of mixed seafood - oh my goodness!! Wonderful flavors, and a good way to try a variety of foods that our Italian friends said I must have in Venice... More

After wandering around the northern part of Venice we were getting hungry and stumbled upon this paradise of a nice warm and cosy Italian restaurant. Bit of a line before you get seated, but you can order a wine whilst you wait and the Italian band that was playing kept the mood going. So a fantastic atmosphere. The food was... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
