We visited the restaurant at lunch time on a rainy day. The place was almost empty. The food ( we enjoyed two different gnocchi versions) was good although a bit to the have side. Friendly service and reasonable service deserves rather 3.5 than just 3 stars

In Venice, eat seafood. Leave the meat in Tuscany. After a morning on Murano Island we chose Fuori Rotta because it was away from San Marco square and closer to our rented flat. What luck. The seafood was fresh - (we noticed "announcements" on other menus of their use of frozen product, be sure to read the menu before deciding).... More

The food at Fuori Rotta is below mediocre: the black squid pasta was dry with not enough olive oil and "sugo"; the branzino was only half a fillet; worst yet, they served me a glass of Pinot Grigio in warm room temperature which I had to send it back. They came back with another wine, this time a bit chilled,... More

We wandered into Campo Santa Margherita looking for a lunch spot, and got very lucky choosing Ristorante Pizzeria Fuori Rotta. The staff were lovely, and very charming with our 10-year-old daughter. The food was excellent, and the wine very nice indeed. Prices were very reasonable. Fancy lunch near the Friari or anywhere in the Dorsoduro and you can't go wrong... More

Went with friends while out exploring Venice. wonderful place with very friendly staff, and English-friendly. Amazing food, three of us had carbonara and one had pesto. No one had any faults with them. I personally found the drinks list limiting but that could be my own tastes - good for beer and wine lovers! Beautiful outside tables and looked lovely... More

Stopped in on a rainy day for lunch. There is an extensive menu, featuring a long list of pizzas. We tried two different pizzas and were very pleased with the quality and super thin crust. A range of other dishes is available including some very nice seafood specialties. Staff are friendly, the interior is very clean and comfortable and the... More

Having enjoyed an average meal with my dear friend over a glass of red my friend and I asked for the bill. We tried to split it, but apparently this was not an option so I offered to pay the full sum of €47.50 (poor value). When entering my card into the machine and typing my pin I noticed the... More

The pizza is way too cheesy and the tomato sauce tastes as if it was squirted straight from a tube of tomato purée, the service was ok, but nothing to shout about.

My wife and I went exploring the quieter parts of venice and ended up being hungry at lunchtime on Campo santa Margherita. A smiling waiter and good looking menu beckoned us in. We sat outside, under their awning to keep the August veneto sun off us. The funny and smart waiter took our order for a litre flagon of local... More

The location is great and our server was really friendly and funny. The food was good too but compared to the other places we late the last few days it was a little on the expensive side. Nevertheless I would come back again. :-)

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
