Found this place only a stones throw from our hotel ( Hotel Moresco). If you are looking for a quick snack and glass of vino this is a real authentic experience. Set alongside a canal this gem offers really small glasses of vino plus snacks like home made salami, cheeses and bread. Perfect for a quick stop as you make... More

Stepping out of the train station this small but very authentic place is one of my favorite - you find also the Gondoliere here for a short break. This is so special and easy - you will love it - very small but very good

This small bar offers wine for €0,60 and small sandwiches for €1! Order your drinks and sit on the stairs of the canal in front of the bar. Finally a nice wine for less! Doesn't happen often in Venice...

This is a tiny little hut off the beaten path that sells wine and small tapas size sandwiches, etc. for a terrific price. No seating per se, but many take their wine/food and sit on the steps of the library(?) in the courtyard area.

Nice little place which is just a tiny place where you can order drinks but really need to then sit outside in the steps of the canal as there is no seating. Wine at less than €1 for a tiny glass is cheap but good and the small tray of salami, Parmesan and bread sticks at just €1.80 is perfect.... More

Could not come back to Venice and not come here again. Definitely one of the best for food, drink, service, and value. Stopped here early on our last morning on way to airport and got panini to take away. Wonderful!!

If you go nowhere else when in Venice, make sure you get to visit here! Wine and scrumptious snacks for pocket change (in marked contrast to the rest of the city!). Always busy but for a very good reason, with a couple of glasses of wine and a tasty snack for less than €2.50, you can't go wrong!

Not much to say really, other than absolutely superb. Very low prices and good snacks. See my picture of the great guy on Google Maps. Can't recommend this place enough!

Delicious snacks and glasses of wine and prosecco, all for under 1 Euro...a perfect refulling pitstop on your exploration of Venice's backstreets. Highly recommend.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
