Scandalous "tourist" prices - 17 Euros for an appetizer consisting of 5 small bites and 15 Euros for a litre of house wine. Double what you would pay in a place where locals go. On top of it the waitress that served us was very rude. My friend had to ask for cheese for her pasta three times as the... More

We visited Venice for the new year and stayed for three nights. Two of those three nights, we ate here! Gluten free options were very good, including pasta and pizza, and the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Good value for money and stylish decor.

We sat outside in the evening and wow the food was lovely! We had the Venetian starter to share and I had sea food spaghetti and hubby had crab ravioli. Wow absolutely lovely! Good service and good food.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The service was fantastic with friendly and attentive staff. The food was great and we believe good value for money too. The restaurant has an authentic feel to it, the atmosphere was nice and warming. Definitely recommend!

Good tourist restaurant. Owner outside explains the menu. I went for it since he made a case for being a local. Good spaghetti al nero. We did not have the free spritz, since likely we said we did not want alcohol, but being offered this would still have been a nice touch since now I know reading the other reviews.

We dined here a number of times during our recent stay in Venice. The food and service was always brilliant. The menu is diverse and the meals we enjoyed had that traditional home cooked taste. Highly recommend!

This is one of those restaurants with the man (owner?) out front shouting the odds. We went there because they were offering a special deal, which turned out to be good value for money. We were inside and because we were there early we had a choice of seats. We were offered a free cocktail on arrival and the food... More

This Osteria must be one of the best in Venice. We were seated at the back of the restaurant overlooking the courtyard. Andrea handed a menu but we asked him to recommend the chefs choice. We were not disappointed. To go with our wine and water we were given a complimentary starter of white polenta and salt cod. Absolutely delicious.... More

After a long day wandering around Venice, we needed to find somewhere to eat that was welcoming (not too fancy). After viewing the menu by the door and a pleasant conversation with the owner, we opted to go in, and were so pleased we did. We started with Aperol while we were deciding what to order. We opted for Gnocchi... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
