We fell into Osteria Bea Vita on a Sunday afternoon and left with big bellies and even bigger smiles. Cooking is traditional and don't expect finesse, but a tapas plate of anchovies was generous and delicious, a bowl of clams and mussels fed two with ease and the pasta we ate (and saw coming out of the kitchen) was excellent.... It's off the main strip but well worth it. I had pasta and scampi and it was delicious! The sauce was amazing. I highly recommend this place.

This is a really relaxed, unassuming eatery and excellent value for money. We enjoyed a shared starter of mixed seafood, then had delicious cuttlefish with polenta and pasta with sea bass and all was delicious. I loved the wider area of Cannaregio as it feels off the main tourist run - well worth a visit.

Found this place and thought we would give it a go as the place recommended to us had a 30 minute wait. It was such a good find, the staff could not have been more helpful. My chap listed it his pasta with sea bass and wild fennel in his top five meals of all time! My pasta pomodoro was... More

I've been wanting to go here for several years now and was I glad I made the effort on this trip to Venice. The meal was superb , we started with mussels and clams ( plenty for two) and I had the pasta with sea bass and wild fennel - so very tasty .... One of the best pasta dishes... More

Sought this place out on Friday night after reading good reviews. We enjoyed it- but beware about ordering starter and mains as the portions are massive! My ham and prosciutto starter was a plentiful plate of ham and a whole mozzarella. Not complaining... Just saying!! Gnocchi was lovely, steak cooked wonderfully. Cute little place slightly off the tourist track, well... More

We loved our lunch at this charming spot off the beaten path. We opted to sit in the main dining room in the back rather than outside - it was filled with local workers enjoying the house wine and the simple but very satisfying lunch menu. The staff was kind and efficient and our whole family enjoyed the food and... More

I came across this little gem when I decided to take a walk away from the touristic main streets. What a gem! Absolutely the best meal I had in Venice. Great seafood in relaxed, unpretentious surroundings; the kind of place where the locals will go. Had a most delicious mussels with clams for starter -- juicy mussels with flavour-concentrated clams... More

The food is simple yet delicious! And you feel like you are back in the past when you are dinning here. Go!!!

this place doesn't look like anything special but don't be misled, the food really impressed me! I had the squid with polenta and it was amazing. even the steamed vegetables and house wine were good. prices are reasonable and I saw a plate of gnocchi pass by that I surely won't miss the next time I come. after all, it's... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
