Went with my wife roaming for some cicchetti and was a bit down as almost all were non veg (great for me but not my wife). Came along here and the meat cicchetti were good but the one we reordered until they had no more left-simple cheese with truffle oil. The most amazing simple yet complex taste that satisfied and... Ordered the veal cheek w/ polenta and artichoke (very bland) as well as the fusilli w/ lamb ragu (pretty good). Service was a bit slow but we went on a fri night so that's understandable. All in all, just average. Food + water + glass of wine = €56

Made a reservation that morning for 7, and had now problem being seated when we arrived on the patio. Ordered appetizers and dinner shortly after being seated. Appetizers arrived as expected and were quite good. But it was close to an hour later that the entree's arrived. Others seated after us were ordering desert. Food was good, but service disappointed.

Wow. Very close to the Rialto Market which makes their ingredients as fresh as can be. Each course was simple and amazing. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal overlooking the Canal. This was the most memorable meal we had while in Italy. The waiters and service were excellent. We would recommend this place to anyone visiting Venice.

Visited twice, wines excellent, crostini filled the hole made by missing lunch, very cool atmosphere . Second visit not so successful, 11pm told by barman we couldn't have a coffee as it was finished. 10 mins later made 3 coffees for their diners, not impressed!

We have been in Venice for five days and this is by far the best meal that we've had whilst here. The setting is 50 yards from the Rialto market right on the side of the canal and is superb. The staff were friendly and just the right level of touch in their service. I had baby lobster to start... More

I am salivating just thinking of a delicious meal I had at Bancogiro on my last visit in Venice, November 2015. It was one of the best meals I had: a pasta dish with broccoli sauce and anchovies I am guessing. When I came back to the U.S. I desperately sought for a similar dish, to no avail. I just... More

We were fortunate to be able to get a table for ten at the last minute and had a wonderful meal. This restaurant was recommended by Dean Gold, owner of Dino's Grotto in Washington DC and it lived up to his recommendation. Lamb chops and steaks were excellent as were the various pastas among our group.

This restaurant is located close to the Rialta Bridge (but less "touristy") and has a "canal-front terrace". Great spot, very relaxing and just to enjoy the world going by on the Grand Canal. We had an enjoyable lunch at this place as a result of the warm welcoming given by one of the waiters, compared to some other waiters at... More

It's hard to choose a good restaurant in Venice, especially on the touristy Grand Canal, but this is a good one! It's located on the less busy side of restaurant row and offers good drinks and cichetti as well as good pastas and salads both indoors and canal-side. We had a delicious burrata starter and generously portioned pastas for lunch.... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
