The food here is obviously homemade with solid traditional flavours. There’s just a few tables outside by the canal and the small cute bridge. It’s a calm neighbourhood so the feel is authentic and very relaxed. Every now and then local boats with flashlights or lanterns will glide by. I loved it.

Just stumbled across this place but really happy too. Outstanding food, first rate service. Great Venetian charm. Sit in the room to the right with the wood paneling.

This charming restaurant stands by a canal in the San Croce neighborhood, off the beaten tourist track and near the small hotel where we stayed in Venice. We walked in around 9:30 p.m. and only a few customers sat in the casual dining room at that time. The menu listed items in English and Italian, which helped us in making... More

We had a nice dinner in this small place 10 years ago and we returned December 2016. They serve tipical Venetian food in good quality at average price, We tried sepia in different forms, con polenta, spaghetti, delicious. 10 years ago it was June so we could sit outside, which is very cosy on the bank of the canal.

We ate here on New Year's Eve (so not the usual options) and it was a set menu - E65pp for the meat option and E80 for the fish - drinks extra. A very generous 7 courses - 2 appetizers, 2 primi, 2 secondi and tiramisu (home made and delicious). My fish option was a very tasty array of food... More

The waiting staff do their best, but when 3/5 things you order are not available, you know something is wrong in the kitchen. If you are a chef and you are going to provide specials, write them on a board, or print them off. Don't expect your staff to memorise them, or customers - just make it easy. In the... More

Venice's restaurants don't necessarily have a good reputation - many visitors are overwhelmed by spots featuring multilingual 'tourist menus' with someone standing outside with a sales pitch. Trattoria Al Ponte del Megio isn't one of these. It's in the San Croce neighbourhood, an area overlooked by most tourists unless they're rushing through it on their way from the Rialto Bridge... As others have mentioned, we tried to waltz into Zucco for dinner (word to the wise -- you need a reservation in advance!) but were turned away. We then tried Trattoria al Ponte across the canal and were very pleasantly surprised. My husband and I had homemade ravioli with asiago and black truffle filling, on a bed of pumpkin mush... More

Recommended by our hotel staff nearby. Ok but not exceptional. A very surprising baby crabs starter... Globally ok but a bit cold, temperature as well as feelings. Not nice to pack the trash bags just beside. In the end a bit expensive.

Marvelous little place with mostly local crowd. Nice (although not amazing food), good selection of wines. Very atmospheric.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
