This is a restaurant which is frequented by locals but is very open to tourists and delivers some lovely food. The owner communicated with me very well via email to make the booking and welcomed us personally on arrival. Our first plate of a pea and liquorice risotto was the best I'd ever tasted. We were less keen on our... More

We liked this place so much, we went back the next day and tried the rest of the menu! The sharing plate of antipasti was excellent and the house wines also good. Excellent ham. The other courses were all tasty. The liquorice risotto was a tad disappointing, lacking flavour. However, other plates were much better. Puddings on the second day... More

It would be easy to miss this place as it's tucked away but we found the food and wine excellent. The staff very friendly and took the time to explain everything on the menu.

We really wanted to like this place which came recommended to us but it failed to please in the main meal department. Ricotta crepe was bland and lifeless, risotto was ok, a glass of brunello for $10 was not up to par. Found the owners a bit stiff in the hospitality department. The singular memorable dish was desert: the tiramisu,... More

The welcome is warm and personal - they remember you from year to year- in this lovely trattoria tucked Into the quiet Campo opposite the Angelo Raffaele church (heads up fans of Miss Garnett's Angel) The 'medium' plate of San Daniele ham look HUGE but it's as delicate as tissue paper and before you know it, it's all gone. Follow... More

Last of four we tried in Venice and this was the best of a good bunch. The menu features local dishes and is wide enough for a good choice but not a tourist type at all. Focussed around local dishes (more meat than fish) and can be expertly paired with a good choice of wines by the glass. Everything was... More

This place is off the beaten path but well worth the time to find it. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. You must make a reservation. They turned away many walk ins while we were there on a Sunday evening. The meat and cheese appetizer was amazing. They slice it to order. We had the rabbit and lamb and... More

Had an amazing meal at Pane Vino tonight. We didn't have a reservation but we were welcomed to a lovely table out the back next to the piano. We shared an entree of artichoke and anchovies and then had tagliatelle with duck ragu and I had the best pea risotto. We finished with a vanilla brûlée. Great service. Superb wine... More

This was our third or fourth visit to this lovely family run, small restaurant in the university quarter of the city. It's a little bit of a walk from the really touristy parts and absolutely 100% the better for it. Once again we had a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
