We ate here on our last night in Venice. The pizzas were exactly how we like them, thin and crispy base with the right amount of topping. We had a Daniela and a Crudaiola pizza and both were delicious! The house red cost us 12 euros for a litre and 3.10 for fizzy mineral water. I have to say the... More

After reading the other reviews for this item restaurant we thought we would give it a go. Sadly this was the fourth pizza place on out visit to Venice and compared to the others we felt the pizza here didn't have as much flavour. The pizzas were thin and had lovely crisp edges. There are over 45 pizza options at... More

Found this place though trip advisor and being close to our hotel we gave it a try. Served pizza and salads (no pasta). I'm not a big fan of pizza (I know I know I'm in Italy) because I don't like tomato however they had a range of tomato free pizzas. I had one with cheese and smoked ham. It... More

Went there twice during recent visit. Real locals place as well as tourists. Have been so often the regular waiter seemed to know us and we felt really welcome but not at all in a smarmy way. It was great. Same amazingly huge , good pizzas and same no nonsense vibe. Quite good value too. Very good sized tables for... More

Walking through Venice on our first afternoon we stumbled across this trattoria. Looked nice inside so we took a chance. Locals and tourists were eating at the time we came so is usually a good sign. How pleased we were! Good polite service, fantastic fresh pizzas and great value.

When I travel, i consider : If restaurant is filled with locals means that restaurant has earned his reputation. Each time I come to Venezia, this is a stop place for me and my husband. This time, we had to catch our plane and we requested to be served very fast and it was carried out perfectly by the staff.... More

We popped in here around 6pm when it was farily quiet and were served by a lovely lady called Maria. There's over 50 different kinds of pizzas on the menu and she helped us choose a popular local choice - the white pizza. The pizza that came out was incredible, the taste still resonates in my mouth 2 weeks later... More

Nothing particularly fancy about this place, but it has a pleasant atmosphere and a good range of pizzas at fair prices. Reasonable house wine, too. Contrary to one or two other reports, we also found the staff friendly and welcoming. It's a slightly scary walk in the dark from the railway staton area, but worth it.

First lunch in Venice and had to return to this place where we had delicious pizza two years earlier. I mentioned in my last review here the discourteous staff and was hoping after reading recent reviews with no mention of it that things may have improved, how wrong could I be. Surly service, reminder again that service wasn't included in... More

We chanced upon this pizzeria whilst looking for something quick and not too expensive. The decor is basic with a number of tables inside and some in a courtyard to the rear although these were not being used due to imminent rain! As it was still early (around 7.30pm) the place was quite empty although as we were leaving "rent... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
