Before arriving in Venice, we were told that good food would be difficult to find. Luckily, with that in mind, I did quite a bit of research. La Zucca topped our the list of dining spots to try. And, wow, what a meal it was. The service, food and atmosphere (& view) were just lovely. We enjoyed every morsel. Half... More

One of the best little restaurants in Venice - frequented by residents who know good food. The dishes are nouvelle Italian cuisine, with some north African and Asian influences, mostly fresh vegetable-based but with the occasional fresh lamb, chicken or beef offering. Try the vegetable lasagne, artichoke tagliatelle, roasted fresh peppers with feta, ragout of beef cheek, or other wonderful... More

We ate here three times for dinner on a visit to Venice last week. We never booked but were lucky, as it soon gets full and diners have to wait at the bar for a table. Perhaps as a result of its popularity the seating is sometimes at a shared - though sufficiently long - table. We enjoyed the food... More

One of the places i would recommend in Venice. Location is lovely cause the restaurant have tables outside in a small street of venice where you can enjoy your meal close to the water. Quality of food is really good and price really competitive for venice. Waiters and guys working there kind and lovely. Pumpkins dishes amazing and also all... More

This quiet place I must say was a bit chilli outside for April. Still glad to get a seat it was booked for three days in advance. I had the lamb and cuscus and my girlfriend had the vegetarian lasagna. Everything we are was amazing, desert was chocolate moose and it was to die for

I have eaten here quite a few times but the food OK, it's not great. I tend to go here because my dining partners prefer a vegetarian-orientated menu. I have never had a bad meal here but then again I have never had a great meal and when I visit Venice I am looking for something special and something mediocre.

We loved eating at La Zucca and ended up going back again for dinner. The food was fresh and delicious - amazing asparagus, very tasty pumpkin flan, zucchini with ricotta - and while there is a great choice of vegetarian dishes, there is also meat and fish although we didn't have those. Lovely panna cotta with almonds and honey and... More

Artichoke appetizer cannot be missed! And the pumpkin flan really was good. Everything we ordered was just spectacular, and the wine selection was lovely. This was our favorite place in Venice; the decor was perfect, cozy, and unpretentious. The service was casual but professional. We felt right at home and were so glad we went. Definitely make a reservation far... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
