Milan friends invited us to join them at Ristorante Al Mercante, an excellent recommendation for the restaurant from local people. It was also close to our Hotel and the Cathedral and museum, shopping arcades and La Scala. The friendly welcome bode well for the rest of the evening. The menu was in Italian and English and offered a good range... More

We had just arrived in Milan and Al mercante was close to our hotel so we went in. Our starters were a puntarella salad with anchovies and mozzarella, and a bacala salad with caper sauce - both excellent. And the mains didn't disappoint either: salmon coated with poppy seeds and mint; and branzino with artichoke. Service was competent and the... More

An outstanding recommendation from our tour guide. Definitely a favorite lunch spot for the professionals from the financial district. Was close to the Duermo also.

As a good tourist, we went to check out the menu before going for it. The maitre came and asked if we were looking to have lunch. I have asked if they have french fries, that is what we want as side dish. He confirmed. After getting our drinks, the waiter came to take our order, we ordered and said... More

Let's start from the location. You are in one of the small surviving corners of Medieval Milan, which is a rarity in itself. Plus, you are 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral and the Gallery. What I expected for such a location was simple: high prices and lousy quality. And I was wrong! The quality of the offer is pretty... More

Nice Location and Quality more or less okay but in the eng no value for money. Small portions and high prices without that Italian Finesse you will find in many other Milan restaurants.

Great location close to Piazza Duomo Very pleasant service They have some really nice breadsticks. We almost got full off the endless refill of them. Dinner itself, I got the ham ravioli which I give a 5/10. Maybe it is because it was just my second time having it... but I was not impressed. The breadsticks saved the day for... More

Came here with around 30 colleagues with preordered menu. The staff was very efficient and brought out the food quite fast. Nevertheless the starter at least was not warm enough and the ossobucco as main was too bland, but not bad. As dessert we have had Tiramisu, again acceptable but nothing to write home about

This is a lovely little place just off the back of the duomo square. The pasta is highly recommended - home made different types and great sauces. Friendly staff and quiet atmosphere despite the closeness to the main tourist area. Had lunch here on the off chance and enjoyed it so went for dinner another night. Waiter remembered us which... I found this restaurant by chance during my previous visit to Milan. Just around corner from Duomo, yet tucked in a medieval square. It is non-pretentious, cosy place where many diners seem to be regulars. In both occasions, I was solo, but there was no problem. I liked the place and food (I had Ossobuco and tiramisu with a glass... More

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.
