About
Located in a welcoming building in the historic center, the Hostaria alla Tavernetta offers a familiar atmosphere. Here Roberto Romano, his wife Giuliana Petris and his sun Matteo Romano, joined in the kitchen by the chef Eddi Riotto, manage with enthusiasm and professionalism, refined by years of experience, this beautiful restaurant. The restaurant, in addition to the lounge on the ground floor where they are accommodated fifty people, offers two well-kept rooms upstairs, suitable for private dinners or business lunches, but the real surprise is the terrace that can host, for a magical evening all shadow of the Duomo, up to twenty people. In the dining room, the light that filters through the windows is placed on objects that recall the atmosphere of a bygone era. The beautiful wooden counter with mirrored shelves, the fireplace, the arches and columns of the old tavern. Everything is made more welcoming by the bottles of wine crammed in every corner and the fresh flowers.

Arrived here as "tourists" with my daughter shortly after evening opening hour with the first response that the restaurant was unfortunately fully booked. Seeing our disappointment, the owner made room for us offering a table close to the bar. We were enrolled into a culinary fest. Brilliant Sardines San Daniel and mouthwatering "Vitello" were followed by "oh so nice" rabbit. Great wine advice to accompany our meal. We were very lucky to get in. Next time we'll definitely make an advance reservation.

The food and wine met all our expectations, we spent a very nice evening in this restaurant. They have a Michelin recommendation for a reason. As for food, I would recommend ravioli stuffed with cheese and cinnamon and tuna with broccoli. The desserts were exquisite! They have a large selection of wines, most of them high quality with not too high prices. The service was correct, we had a small misunderstanding regarding the wine we drank, because several waiters serve you at the same time and they were not coordinated. Our recommendation is leave the same waiter for drinks at one table to avoid such situations.

Hostaria Alla Tavernetta is conveniently located in the old city center and parking is available nearby. We enjoyed an excellent business dinner in their second floor dining room. They offered a variety of meats, pasta and fish. I had a potato garlic soup starter and the lamb with white asparagus. Excellent! The lamb and tiramisu dessert paired particularly well with an Edi Kieber Merlot.

We were looking forward to dining here very much as it’s extremely well reviewed, but although most of the food was very nice and it was all beautifully presented, the experience was disappointing overall. The restaurant is clearly very popular and the owners made a big fuss of all the local diners (who were served well before us despite arriving later) but as tourists we felt ignored. Took a long time for anyone to take our order or offer drinks, despite me waving frantically at the waitress for attention, then 90 mins wait for main course. The staff were pleasant enough but seemed harassed rather than welcoming. The owner apologised at the end of the meal for the slow service (otherwise this would have been a 2* review) but no discount was offered on the bill (and it wasn’t cheap). We had far better dining experiences in Udine for considerably less.

As a “vegan guest”, it is often not possible to get good vegan food in a restaurant. BUT when we went to this restaurant the offered us some good possibilities. And the food was just YUM! The atmosphere was good as well. The music was okay, maybe classic/ instrumental/ slow Italian music would be better for the atmosphere. Big portions for a good price arrangement. Thank you. It was very nice. We will come back.

Relaxed and elegant restaurant for lunch - we enjoyed delicious local prosciutto with what they called fried gnocchi - which seemed like buckwheat. Delicious pasta and plum filled gnocchi for lunch. Very local.

Really great this restaurant in the center of Udine. Warm and comfortable atmosphere, attractive and professional staff, with typical specialties of Friulian cuisine. A smoked ham by Cormons , company D’Osvaldo, really surprising, absolutely incomparable. Frico cheese, brought on a wooden cutting board, very tasty. For second, among other things, rabbit or cut chicken, both exceptional. Local wines, of course, are difficult to overcome: in particular, if you take the meat, I slap it. All for less than 50 € per person, and it is absolutely worth it. Definitely to recommend, without fear of denial. In a word, great.

The Elderly Traveler, together with his companion, returns to this refined Hostaria after years of absence. And he finds the levels of service (among other excellent waiters also a delicious Chinese named Azzurra), and the quality of the food, in relation to the price, increased compared to previous experiences. Always delightful environment, cosy to put it in English, that is comfortable, with bottles on the walls, the wide arches that expand the space, the chandeliers, the decorative objects on the tables, not a free seat yet a sober and polite collective buzz, to warm the context. A refreshing Malvasia, and then some hors d'oeuvre offered with cheese spread on hot sandwiches, for starters. Then, plum dumplings, alternating with cjarsons, to remain in the tradition relived with great skill by the chef, a creamy bacala foam served on slices of delicate polenta, a vegan dish made from a set of pumpkin declined in various ways, including an ice cream version, and to close a srbetto and a gubagnocco made with chestnut honey and dried fruit. Ancient flavors, in short, and at the same time very fresh, with the two old customers satiated and amazed at so much good taste, literally.

If you do not want to spend a lot of money to get Michelin 2* at Agli Amici dal 1887, this place will offer you exquisite food and very good service. Everything we tried was first rate in taste, preparation and presentation. We chose to have several Friuli wines by the glass to complement each course. Highly recommended.

Suggestive location with a fireplace in the centre, attentive service, high-class food with refined preparations and starred presentations. Excellent frico, gourmet tuna, high-level sparkling ribolla, sorbets in a deconstructed version and not from a starred restaurant. In short, everything was perfect. The owners are really friendly people and pay attention to all the details. We felt treated like princes.

I order an appetizer of raw fish and I must say it was not bad at all. For the second I order a risotto with scampi cream. The lady who takes the order tells me that risotto is only for two people minimum. I retort that it is not specified in the menu and she with fare savant replies that a serious restaurant prepares risotto for two people. Anyway, I'll order something else. After a while the lady comes back to me and tells me that she can get me the risotto since it was ordered from another table... I answer ok... After a while I get the long-awaited risotto but I immediately notice the color and then the flavor that had been put the cream. Of scampi not even the hint. I subsequently order a tiramisu and even there total disappointment because there was no mascarpone cream but coffee custard, biscuits that were not ladyfingers. Very high price for mediocre food quality. I won't be back for sure

Local not far from the Cathedral of Udine, in the side streets, with patience, you can find parking. Upon entering you understand that the place and the people who frequent it tend to be sporty/elegant... certainly particular. The place is full on a Tuesday evening... that says it all... the menu shows dishes that are out of the ordinary and that arouse curiosity, there is also a vegetarian menu with spectacular dishes that we took even though we were not vegetarians. I ate really well. Dinner around €40 per head definitely deserved. a place that we will remember and where I would return if passing through Udine; I highly recommend it to those who like to try something different from the common one.

The food is very good. We ordered a plate with prosciutto and cheeses as a starter which was really good. But recommended is the burrata with ansjovis, which was delicious. Also Ribs that had been in the oven for 20 hours were fantastic as they were so tender. Desserts were all great and everything came with good wine. This restaurant is not cheap for Italian standards, but the quality is really good.

I was invited to this restaurant on a business dinner last wednesday. We asked the owner to recommend the courses and we were very pleased with his selection. We had San Daniele ham, filled Gnocchi for starters, and Braised beef cheek for main course. He also suggested the wines. We ended with a Tiramisu. This was one of the best dinners I have had in a long time. If you are in Udine, than this restaurant is a must.

In the middle of a food and wine tour in Italy to discover the typical products and culture of the various Italian regions we come across this restaurant under the strict recommendation of the Udinese population Sustainability, seasonality, conviviality, research and tradition with vegan options attached. Difficult to find better. The owners are incredible, true restaurateurs capable of making you feel at home from the first moment and the guys in the dining room are very good, from first to last, which is very rare to find nowadays. Not just a wonderful experience, but one of the best restaurants so far in Italy. Unbeatable price, unique experience. Simply very strong
