This restaurant was just a few doors down from the apartment we were staying in and was a wonderful surprise. Amazing food, wonderful host and such a venue steeped in history. Definitely a highlight of our trip and the best restaurant we visited.

I had been looking forward to eating at this restaurant during my many visits to Rome and was excited to experience what everyone has told me was a great dining experience, unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience. It was raining heavily but we bared the bad weather and arrived at the front door of the restaurant only to be... More

Our daughters chose this restaurant based on recommendations from friends. We were glad we did.The food was delicious but even better was the amazing friendly service. The owner and his son seem to go out of their ways to develop a little personal rapport with their customers. My daughter made a special request not on the menu and it was produced for her..above... An interesting family-run place with a long history but not touristy - has a local feel, hidden down a backstreet - and very friendly, colourful staff. Food was generally very good - fairly traditional with a bit of a twist. Also a good choice of wine, as you'd expect from the place's name, if that's your thing.

The food was excellent! The father and son wait staff were funny, the mother cooked. Their wine cellar is under the restaurant in a room from 80BC, you can even still see faded frescoes on the walls!!

The meal, wine, and atmosphere were fantastic. We were impressed by the building's history, and to learn this is a family-run business. They were very accommodating to our friend who is lactose intolerant and couldn't eat cheese. We were also able to tour the wine cellar. Our reservations were at 7:30pm, much earlier than when Italians have dinner, so it... More

Food quality is excellent as well as the personal attention from the owner. We had the soup, tapenade pasta, seafood pasta and chicken meat balls. All were very good. We also had the Sicilian house white wine which was very pleasant. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. When you come do take a look in the wine cellar which... More

We were wandering around Trastevere, looking for a place to eat. Not an easy feat even in low season as many places were already fully booked, so reservations are advised. We found Spirito Divino online; we read a little bit about the history of the building from other reviewers, and it seemed inviting. Thankfully a table had just opened up... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
