This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel front-desk attendant, and we loved it. The owner was the waiter for the table, and his son and wife were the cooks in the kitchen. It was a personal and memorable experience dining at this restaurant. The food was made with love and it capped our trip to Rome.

Located in a genuinely Roman-looking part of Trastevere, this restaurant is set in a unique historic building - I cannot quite tell you all the numbers, but I as far as I remember, it's the oldest intact synagogue building in Europe and the wine cellar, which by the way is absolutely incredible, dates back to BCE. The food was lovely... More

Fascinating place with a superb slow food chef and her spirited husband combine to deliver great food and a fun night. Although the building has lots of history and a tour of the cellar show this, the dining area is decorated in simple yellows and white. The staff is engaging and knowledgeable as they deliver some very traditional old world... More

A family run nicely appointed restaurant with a French type of spin on traditional Italian. The chicken liver pate was exquisite and the pistachio parfait was amazing. We were weary of pasta so this had options. Wine list was diverse with many choices. Servings were larger, tables were nicely spaced and the owner provided personal attention. All servers were attentive... More

Family run place with delicious food, amazing wine selection and the best service ever. Not only that, their pre-Colosseum wine cellar is open for observation. The family make you feel at home, welcoming and celebrating kids, and ensuring everyone is comfortable. We were a large party, one of whom fell asleep, but these guys took everything in their stride and... More

16 of us sat down to eat at this very pretty little restaurant. I agree with a previous reviewer who said you feel like you are joining a very friendly Italian family in their home. The owner and his son chatted comfortably with us and gave us valuable history lessons. We learned about his ancient wine cellar and that it... More

A real treasure in Trastevere! The owners of this historic place were very helpful and kind to us. They welcomed us with an incredible charm and the food was a heavenly experience. We highly recommend this restaurant specially if you have some food limitations. Everything was amazing

This is where the locals eat and the food is fantastic. We happened upon this family owned restaurant while out walking in Rome. The proprietor, Romeo, is a very interesting person with a love and knowledge of food. His wife is the chef and a well known former scientist. The restaurant was packed but he made room for us and... Unassuming from the street, inside the food is wonderful, the atmosphere cozy and the service warm and attentive. The owner, who made friendly visits throughout the meal, is pursuing a slow-food approach. The menu includes traditional Roman cuisine, with some Jewish influence. The restaurant is in a former synagogue, which dates to 980 CE according to the owner. We had... More

This is by far our favourite restaurant from our trip. The place is owned and run by a local Roman family, and the host and son are both hilarious and know so much about the local history. The chef is also equally as delightful as she brings a lot of traditional recipes into her cooking. The creme brulee is second... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
