Possibly the best gluten free pizza I've had in Italy to day. Great service, very family friendly. Top marks on flavor, service and cleanliness.

We went here as we were staying next door, as we sat down I had a quick look on trip advisor and then started to reconsider so in the end we just had one pizza between us and two small beers. The waiter was nice, the drinks came quickly although we struggled to order a second beer and then gave... More

If you are in Rome, you owe it to yourself to visit the San Saba neighborhood. San Saba church is built over an ancient Roman temple. Very evocative. Behind the church is one of the jewels of Roman cuisine: Al Callarello. The food is fantastic, the house wine is really good and the prices are fair. Inside or al fresco... More

We started going to Al Callarello 7 years ago when it was our "neighborhood" restaurant. We know the staff well - they have watched our children grow. Andrea, a longtime server, remembered our son when we arrived, unexpectedly, last night. My daughter's favorite, Penne Al Vodka, was off the new menu - they made it for her anyway. Still the... Visited in a group of 19 and given separate room. Good seafood and Pastas. Reasonably priced. Crème Brulee not good.

A family managed restaurant in which you will find a great cooking mixed up with the warmth and the cordiality of a experienced and good-tasted staff. From the beginning to the end, an exquisite culinary-trip.

We were walking in the neighborhood and were hungry so we decided to give it a shot. I took the zucchini flowers as an appetizer, there was too much batter for me but still good. I took the sea bass and tomato pasta, it was really good. I wouldn't go out of my way for that restaurant but if you... More

This traditional restaurant is serving a good unpretentious italian cuisine. Mostly full for lunch thanks to The FAO civil servants next door. Reasonable price.

Consistently good Italian food in a convenient place in Aventiono. Plenty of parking right in front. Nice to eat outside in the summer. The wait staff are used to dealing with foreigners since the restaurant is right behind FAO.

Staying in Aventine

Neighbourhood Profile
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
