If there is one memory that will stay with me from this delightful place, it will be the greeting from the proprietor of this establishment. The warmth of his engagement was similar to that of a long lost friend. His story was that we should eat there because all cooking was done by his wife, and that, similar to many... More

Tried this restaurant for pizza which was busy but service was very slow! Ordered some mussels and enjoyed it with lovely bread! The pizza was just okay, nothing special and took a long tome to get our bill. Would not return.

My wife and I made this restaurant our favorite when we spent a few days in Trastevere six years ago. Now we came back with friends and dinned there twice. We found the same experience of good traditional food and friendly environment that we remembered. Francesco is a really great host. There is a grilled fish and seafood plate to... More

Lovely staff, lovely food. We ate here twice on our recent trip, choosing it for the second time for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner. There are good reasons why this is a popular restaurant and if you want a table at peak times you may have to book, wait or pop over the road to Baylon for a Prosecco until... More

Like most restaurants in Rome (and probably everywhere else), when you become a regular, you begin to be treated like an old friend, or even family. I am a regular here, living only a few blocks up the street. The food is fine, adding, though, that it is a typical Italian restaurant menu -- heavy on pasta dishes, but with... More

We are staying in Trastevere on this trip and Alle Fratte di Trastevere is a must stop for dinner or lunch. We have been here previously so we knew that the staff and the food were excellent. Giuseppe gave us excellent service. My son enjoyed a pizza with anchovies and I had the filet with green pepper sauce. My wife... More

This place had good reviews on various sites so I tried it out. The service was terrible. I waited ages to order, people who got there after me ordered before me, and it wasn't busy. Was offered no water or bread, yet others around me received it when they sat down. The food was blah. I was surrounded by lots... More

Following recommendations from various guide books and social platforms we decided to book this restaurant to the perfect Easter lunch. We were highly disappointed: The menu were mediocre compared to next door neighbours and seeing that we went for two courses in order to save our appetites. After 40 minutes a dish of carbonara and a dish of risotto with... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
