Just one perfect experience: an ethereal, crusty sandwich, rendered wonderfully soggy inside by a sinful Trippa, in a rich tomato sauce and sprinkled with grated cheese. A great Roman moment.

Not the typical location you would find a top place to eat! We were visiting the market when we noticed the crowd in front of this place. All the other food vendors were quiet. We gave it a shot and it was wonderful! We had number one, which a slow cooked beef that melts in your mouth. The bread was... More

Great place for a quick and filling lunch. We ordered two meat sandwiches which were perfect for eating in this partial outdoor market. If you're in the area, worth the stop!

My husband and I visited the market in the Testaccio area of Rome and stopped at Mordi e Vai for sandwiches. I got a sausage sandwich which had a warm broccoli spread on it. My husband got the boiled beef and the sandwich was dipped in the au jus. Sandwiches with sodas cost less than 10 euros! We found places... More

You all know how good the place is, I've been one of the early customer since I work in front of the market at the university, and it keeps its top level over the years. Try the classic panino con allesso and add some broccoletti if it's the season!

We were recommended by our apartment landlord to visit the food market at Testaccio and upon further research, I saw good reviews at Morde e Vai... Definitely worth a visit...it's simple, authentically Roman, street food! I can't remember the name of the panini we got but it was basically a luscious beef stew piled onto a panini!! What's not to... More

Not best ever, but the small portion of meat in it was delicious. Great sauce, bread just ok! The whole market is really nice here..

First day in room and after checking into hotel walked to Mordi e Vai. It was just as I had read about. loved my Americana sandwich and husband had meatball sandwich. Had a beer and pop and sat on bench while we ate and people watched. Loved it

In this review I would like to highlight something different from the delicious sandwiches. Ten days ago, after having paid, I forgot to claim the change back. I grabbed the paninis and went to the center of the market, to sit and eat with my friends. Here the surprise: the owner, the old man who usually prepares the sandwiches, showed... More

We visited Testaccio market in morning, and we very actually disappointed whit the market. But then we found this panini stand, that we saw before on travel channel. And it was grate, we took number one and number two sandwiches, and they were fantastic, so simple but so tasty.

Mordi e Vai by Sergio Esposito, Roman cuisine, regional champion in 2013 in the category of street food (premium received by the "Gambero Rosso").
Stuffing sandwiches, mostly with simple dishes of Roman tradition and not only ...
The tripe with tomato sauce and bacon, the Scottona allesso (house specialty), the picchiapo, the sausages (Cecchini), and then boiled dumplings ... one leads to another.
Flavors, simple and raw materials of excellence!
The meat, strictly "Scottona", the bread, baked fresh every morning from the ancient oven "Passi" in Testaccio, are some of the elements in a short time have consecrated "Mordi & Vai" as a must see for roman lovers of street food.

Staying in Testaccio

Neighbourhood Profile
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.
