A warm welcome, attentive service and great food - can't fault this place. Our starters arrived really quickly - antipasto di mare, and melon with parma ham - both really tasty. Then the mains (mussels; spaghetti carbonara) shortly after and both excellent. Great wine at a bargain price. Lots of locals here who seemed to be enjoying themselves - well... More

The best local restaurant in Roma. Localized closed to Termini station. Very nice and helpful staff.

This restaurant came strongly recommended both on tripadvisor and at my hotel but I wondered what the fuss was about when I went there. It was pretty crowded and we were sitting cheek by jowl, virtually smelling our neighbours' meals. The waiter spent his time flirting with a young lady and generally ignoring most tables. I ordered a roast lamb... More

I stayed at a hotel a block away from this restaurant, we happened to stumble on it and I'm so glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were friendly and personable. We went back two nights in a row. Even when the restaurant was jam packed, we got great service and great food.

we found this restaurant on our first night in Rome we got a table straight away even though the restaurant was busy. The food is freshly cooked and the portion sizes are good. it was so good that we went back and where treated as old friends. will definitely be going back to this restaurant when we return to Rome.

We had arrived late at our hotel (Hotel Continentale) and wanted somewhere to eat in a hurry. We saw the Taverna Pretoriana across the road and decided to try it. Suffice to say we went back every night for a week. There is a good choice of food on the menu and I could not complain about anything we tried.... More

We found the Taverna Pretoriana whilst looking for somewhere outside the tourist trap to eat - once discovered (and enjoyed) we ate there for our last 3 nights. The first night I had spaghetti with Mushrooms in a piquante tomato sauce it was delicious. A litre of local beer is reasonable priced for the location and very good indeed. The... More

Very responsably priced, and full of locals, always a good sign! The food was good - with ample servings - and the atmosphere was lively, especially due to the friendly and funny staff. A great starting point for a night out.

We went here this evening whilst on a long weekend in Rome. The food was average. The service was awful. We waited an hour between our first course and main course. The waiter after an hour told us the kitchen messed up the food. After waiting another 15 minutes they bought the food out and one of the meals was... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
