I had a great night here. Everything seemed to be right. Great atmosphere, excellent service and the food could not have been better. We loved this place. Second time here and even better. Eur 160 for three courses with wine and water. Definitely recommend for a great meal.

Arguably the best restaurant in town, my expectations were high and it didn't disappoint me. Excellent seafood and dishes from Northern Spain. Try the superb Pixin (monkfish) and the Merluza (haddock)

We arrived slightly late for a birthday celebration and were reprimanded upon arrival. We were very well aware of the time limitations on the table and complied by only ordering one dish to make sure that our table was available for the next guests. Coffees took 25 minutes to arrive inclusive. Such a shame as the food is very good.... More

During a business trip we had a dinner hee including starters and deserts. The food was awesome, fresh, with new and creative ideas. Very good fish and friendly staff.

This is a white tablecloths, fine dining restaurant, near Plaza Colon. The quality of the food is excellent from start to finish, the best pan tomate I have ever had, delicious wild mushrooms and a beautiful veal `chapacho`. We had several starters, coffees and no desserts with wine and it was under €70 each, which for this quality was really... More

It is so rare to find a restaurant in which the tables are not crammed together, the music loud, the service intrusive, the food disappointing, or a combination of the three. El Paraguas allows sensible conversation, adequate privacy, whilst eating exceptional food, attended by professional and sensible staff, and offering value for money. It's not cheap but it is worth... More

We sat outside in a covered heated partly enclosed section on the sidewalk. Complete with heaters and beautiful throw blankets for your seat at lunch. The service was amazing! They start you with these tasty onion straws that I could not get enough of (they brought more) and excellent wine. My wife had her champagne and I had my boor,... More

We came on a recommendation by our hotel and had a wonderful dinner. The quality of the food is excellent, and it is always heartening to see many locals. Staff are all professional, and some are very friendly like the waitress who served us initially. An enjoyable experience.

We were treated to dinner with my wife by a good friend from Madrid. It was a nice surprise to find a pleasant atmosphere with great food that can go from the normal Spanish cuisine to the somehow exotic, but all with fantastic taste. It is known for hosting all kind of personalities from the Spanish Society, so it must... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
