Beautiful restaurant, attentative staff and the food.... wow!!! Really great experience, nothing was too much for the staff who looked after our party fantastically well. The food was just delightful with good portion sizes, beautifully well presented and tasted out of this world. If I`m in Madrid again this will be the first booking I make.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. I would say it is $$$ instead of $$$$. We shared a tapas, had a bottle of wine, and two entrees and spent about € 110. Hake fish was excellent. Would definitely go back. Found out about this place from locals. It is considered an in spot. We were treated like everyone else which was nice.... More

This restaurant has different sections and we had a table for two near the kitchen which did not make our stay that enjoyable. We ordered half a bottle of Rioja Allende red wine which is moderately priced and good. For starters we had a delicious lasagna of artichokes, really very good. Our main dishes were 'cochinillo' or pork with a... More

A real discovery: very hospitable. Early without prior booking we were given a table in one of many small but tastefully decorated rooms. We ordered a salad to share (no problem) , a portion od pidxkin (no guarantee i spelled it correctly), it is an Anturian recipe of angler fish with a cider tomato couli, sea bass for my friend,... El Paraguas was highly recommended by locals and we ate here on a Saturday evening. The food is typically Spanish with an asturian influence and was presented in a very sophisticated way. This was as good as any Michelin star restaurant we have dined at in London. The best dishes in our party of 4 were the king crab cakes... More

Cancelled a 2* Michelin reservation, as we had too many long tasting menus over the course of a week in Spain. Concierge at hotel recommended el Paraguas as excellent, local spot popular with residents of Salamanca. Wonderful greeting and service by all staff - felt like we were local, regulars. Food and wine (excellent quality for price ..) were beyond... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
