La Barraca is famous for it's paella and does a very, very good one. A little over-priced, but the food was great and the service was excellent. We came away very satisfied with the duck and mushroom rice and completely stuffed. It was easy to just walk in at 8:30pm in the middle of the week in the off season,... More

We have read several reviews about the poor service. However, we have had a great experience at La Barraca. The service is professional, and the food is amazing. Best paella we had in Spain. Will definitely recommend this restaurant for Paella to friends.

We had seafood paella for lunch in this beautiful restaurant, and it was delicious! The paella here is even better than the paella offered at Hotel Melia, which is supposedly the best in Madrid. Plus, La Barraca is more reasonably priced and the staff was very polite and professional. Dessert was also outstanding. The restaurant was traditionally decorated, including Spanish... More

I was so excited to try this restaurant because of all the reviews. It was disappointing and I left feeling unsatisfied. This was my third time in Spain and I never experienced delicious paella. In the past, I visited small restaurants along Las Ramblas (which was my mistake) and another restaurant that was recommended by a friend. They were all... More

The bad vibe started when the stone faced manager/owner doesn't smile or greet you warmly. In fact, you aren't greeted at all, but scowled at. You will be taken to a table surrounded by other tourists who were given the recommendation by their hotel concierge. Not a Madrinellos in the house. You will have a fair meal, mediocre at best,... Nice restaurant in the centre of Madrid. The menu is available in different languages so you can read and order exactly what you want. We ordered paella with fish that was not bad but I think you can improve. Sangria was good. Desserts were delicious. Staff was kind and qualified.

Visited by taking into consideration the reviews in Trip Advisor. Paella (I tried the mixed) good as a good paella in Madrid with very good ingredients. for me the plate to try is the Sopa Catalana, which is great... Service excellent, very professional and very polite Prices I believe expensive you should not expect to pay less than 35euros per... More

Beautiful restaurant with excellent service. You might need a reservation even on lunch time. Paella tasted very good.

My friend and I were disappointed with our experience at La Barraca. The waitress Shao/Xiao greeted us and when asked for our drinks we declined alcoholic beverages unfortunately this didn't sit well with her as she repeated "you're not going to drink?" pulled a face and walked off. The guests around us were also foreigners speaking English and she actively... More

During my stay in Madrid I had several occasions to taste different paellas, but this is one of the best I had, a good choice of different kind and totally affordable prices. We choose the mixed paella (fish and meat) plus a glass of red wine plus water plus half litre of sangria (very good as well) and two REAL... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
