Dantxari is in the Calle Ventura Rodriguez (Metro station here) just north of the Plaza de España. As the name suggests, it serves traditional Basque food, and Basque food is allegedly the best cui-sine in Spain. Being located in a quiet street away from the usual tourist areas the clientele when we went was, with the exception of my wife... More

My wife and I had a wonderful meal at this excellent Basque restaurant. The joy of halving entrees was a pleasure so I had half a portion of the pigs feel and half a portion of the oxtail, which were both delicious...and the cod croquettes were fantastic. Can't wait to go back the next time we are in Madrid. The... More

Ordered the set menu and couldn't of been more pleased. Also ordered a plate of fried mushrooms that were simply unbeatable. Threre must be something about this city; as two of my finest meals ever were both enjoyed here in Madrid.

Great little restaurant full of Spanish families, clearly regulars (always a good sign when you're the only English) just next door to Mercure Plaza de Espana hotel. Great atmosphere, cheerful decor (red check tablecloths, wood, pottery on the walls), very welcoming staff, good wine list. Lots of dishes on the menu which I didn't know (English menu available), all made... More

No booking made, but probably advisable, had numerous staff providing excellent service as night progressed. Don't ignore the "house wine", its superb (10E for .5ltr) then complimentary starter (sausage with fresh warm rolls), we ordered 2 varieties of fish from menu. The meals and plates were hot when meal served, the sea bass with tomato, onion and rosemary glaze had... More

Service very good, limited English but provided English menu Wine list very good, Spanish Three house whites, had a glass each of Rueda then a bottle of Aalto (Ribera del Duero), which was excellent. Ambience: cozy with red checked tables. Had a menu available for 65E including wine (one glass? Not sure) - I think there were half a dozen... More

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
