Definitely worth seeing an opera here. I saw an Opera sung in Italian and there were both Spanish and English subtitles so all can enjoy. The theatre was full on a weekday evening of patrons of all types. Unfortunately for me, I was sitting next to two women who clearly were unfamiliar with Opera and the etiquette. Not much one... One of the great places to see opera, concerts or dance. Hard not to get good seats. Acoustics are very good

You can only purchase tour tickets in person (right before the tour starts), so after I arrived, we were shocked to be told that the tours are only available in Spanish. I don't speak any Spanish, but did the tour anyway and it was much less interesting. If you don't speak any Spanish, I would not recommend this!

For those who love music, I strongly recommend to visit this opera house to see some opera if your visit is in opera season. This is one of the best opera house in the world, not just building but also the performance. Another important reason that I recommend this opera house is it offers great discount, 50% or more to... On our recent trip to Madrid we decided to go and see Rigoletto performed and it was an amazing experience. The theatre is absolutely stunning inside with a great open 3-story lobby. Well worth the visit even if it's not for a performance.

I came here with the school I work at for a play aimed at 4th grade kids and the production was fantastic. Entertaining, fun and it really engaged the children.

We decided to take the afternoon English tour of the theatre before we left. Our guide was very informative and we enjoyed the hour we spent in the building. The Royal Theatre is fairly new having been rebuilt recently after being disused. There are actually a few different tours you can take although the general one is the most informative.... More

After visiting the Palace, we popped in to the Teatro Real durng a very hot day August. It was impressive and very cool. We started upstairs on the 6th floor, where my husband discovered a wonderful vending machine with ice cold sodas. There was also a very comfortable sitting area with very large comfortable chairs. He was delighted. Then we... More

Visited Madrid recently for a birthday treat and took in Placido Domingo performing at this wonderful theatre, it really was a magical and never to be forgotten evening. This was our first visit to the opera and to see one of the finest singers perform live in front of us really was amazing, the seats we had were to the... More

Came here after a performance of Fidelio. The restaurant's tasting menu is a great bargain as it includes 4 wines. Service is old fashion and perfect. One can tell waiters having been doing this for a long time. Even without coming to the opera we would come back to this place. Bravo!

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
