Whenever I'm in Madrid, I do whatever it takes to go to La Trainera. This place serves typical Spanish seafood, which is very well prepared with generous portions. Anything you ask for will be delicious.

after all the comments we read, we were very much looking forward going to la Trainera for a dinner for two after many dinners with the family. The interior is old fashioned which we did not mind so much. We ordered some jamon de bellota riserva, which we eat on a regular basis at home and which we liked a... More

A traditional sea food Restaurant. It is expensive but it is very good. You need to take your time as the service is quite long but it is tatsty. Just have in Mind that it is not a cheap restaurant but very fresh. Enjoy

Traditional restaurant specialized in fish and shellfish. Excelent. Try grilled turbot. Great. Very good wine offer. A must for lovers of fish specialities.

I started with the cream of mariscos soup--like a bisque--excellent. My wife had the white asparagus appetizer and really liked it. I had the grilled sole (lenguado a la plancha)--wonderful. My wife had the scallops. Thought the preparation was excellent but the scallops were a wee bit overcooked. I had the classic rice pudding for dessert and it was great.... More

La Trainera is an institution in the Salamancha area of Madrid. Their fish and seafood is fresh, made without any fancy additions, just to the point. Sole is their speciality - grilled, and a few potatos on the side. Delicious! Go their for fish or shellfish - steaks (they have one only) is not the place. The restaurant is cosy,... More

La Trainera has existed since I became aware of the restaurant word. The food has always been consistently good and the seafood outstanding. This time and the last one we noticed that the waiters were kind of rude towards the patrons. A person in our group very politely asked one of the floor supervisors if having a bad face or... More

Really nice authentic restaurant, waiters are experienced and have been at it for quite some years. I go quite often, food is great, but not cheap.. Try the Bogavante.

My favorite seafood place in Madrid--or maybe anywhere. The first thing I want to do in Madrid is go to La Trainera and have the gambas a la plancha! I have found the welcome friendly and the service excellent. I have never been disappointed.

Despite reservation, shunted on arrival into a back corridor with three tables, just past the kitchen and behind the main dining room. This seemed to be an 'atmosphere free' tourist area. Waiters did not make us feel welcome, but served adequately. Quality of the fish and cooking both excellent. Would certainly return if guaranteed table in front dining room, not... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
