The pictures of bull fight were all over, and the bull heads adorned the higher walls. Some pics were gory, but gave a great glimpse of the sport. The place almost felt like a little museum The tapas and drinks were good, a little pricy though.

Quite complaining about the price! This is a great place to learn about how live like a Madriano. You can learn, just by watching, how to enjoy tapas with your drink. Order a Cana (small beer) and the bartender will provide you with a tapas. Then sip your drink as you take in all the bullfighting history represented on the... More

If you’re interested in bull fighting this is the place to go. Lots of bull fighting memorabilia displayed, including mounted heads of famous bulls. Had a small glass of beer for about 2 Euros and looked around for 20 minutes or so. Very small bar so if there are many people you’ll be hard pressed to really look around.

This small bar/taberna located on Plaza Mayor in Madrid is not for everyone. Those strongly opposed to the bullfight will be offended by the pro-corrida, pro-matador slant of the décor, which includes the famous mounted bulls’ heads and scores of framed photographs, many frankly difficult to look at for the bullring violence they capture. (Some photos appear to be of... More

My wife and I basked in the late October sunshine whilst people watching in the Plaza Major. There are several bars with terrace seating on the square and yes its touristy but not exclusively so, as locals also enjoy a coffee or a beer as well. Don't go inside the bar itself if you have a problem with bull fighting!... More

We stopped here for a coffee and a soft drink. One small black coffee and a small 220ml bottle of Fanta cost 8 euros! We made the most of it then limped off to enjoy the rest of our stay in Madrid. The location is good, but not worth the extortionate prices.

We did not eat here, just sat and watched the goings on in Plaza Mayor, tour group after tour group and some of the most unique buskers. Service is fast and polite. Drinks are a little pricey, but you are paying for the location.

This bar is owned by a retired bull fighter and his conquests are on the wall. If you are bothered by blood and gore and the torment of animals don't go in as the pictures show bullfights and the TV plays pasts fights, including kills. We visited at lunch and ordered a beer, this was served with a tapa of... More

Had a quick drink here and some boquerones fritos. The decoration is interesting, bull-fight-themed with pictures or gory bull-fight accidents and famous visitors to the bar and bull-fights in general.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
