We had been here for lunch two weeks ago and promised ourselves we'd come back for a dinner. We fulfilled that promise this evening and we were fortunate enough to find Eugenie available to assist us. She is terrific and speaks Spanish, French and English. Since my Spanish is very limited, I appreciated her very pleasant help. We had the... More

We took a break from tapas and found this gem via a eyewitness travel book recommendation. Throughly enjoyed the eggplant Parmesan appetizer as my entree. My husband has the black squid ink ravioli with seafood filling and liked that too. For dessert we ordered the cheesecake which was more like a deconstructed cannoli. Our waitress Eugenie was a great waitress... More

We asked our hotel for an italian restaurant, and they sent us there. The food was excellent, the service friendly and genuine, the chef (who we congratulated) came to say goodbye. This dinner was an excellent surprise, we did not expect to have such a typical italian dinner in Madrid!

They have the wood oven like in Italy, and pizza is good. Appetizers also have their italian stamp, with mortadella or burrata (that is VERY hard to find abroad). Service was good and quick, but we got dinner earlier than usually. They have a very wide choice of wines and desserts as well. A little expensive because 2 pizzas, 1... More

We visited Donnafugata with our kids, we appreciated the good ingredient which makes food tasty especially for Pizza and Ravioli, also the waitress was nice and helpful to choose our meals. Pizza presentation was a bit neglected even though artisanal Pizza has to be this way. The service was speedy. To be mentioned: - 30% discount is applied only when... More

We happened upon this little gem of a restaurant around 10:30 PM one evening in Madrid. They were packed but the owner offered to call if a table opened up. This is an unusual service to find in Spain and we had a drink somewhere else while we waited for the call which came shortly after. The restaurant has an... More

It is very rare to get real Italian cuisine in Spain, and this is the rare exception. Had fabulous arrosto, great pasta and of course a delicious tiramisu, real real Italien cuisine, made me think of our time in Milano, great to have found this original place!

My girlfriend and I ate here and had an amazing time. We ordered the gnocchi in 5 cheeses with black truffle and the truffle and mushroom pizza. Both dishes were amazing. For dessert we shared a chocolate souffle that was cooked to perfection and had a liquid chocolate center. Service was great!

Authentic Italian food. Everything fresh, tasty and delicious. Amazing food, ambience and super friendly service. They are nice, always smiling and trying to help. You can't go wrong here. Focaccia was to die for. The pappardelle with pistachio was superb! My daughter had pizza. Wood oven and tasty! I was sad that the burrata was finished today. I'll definitely come... More

Quaint wee Italian spot in Madrid with good fresh food and a fixed price lunch menu should that approach suit you. No English menu and wait staff that was helpful but there was clearly a language gap. Pizza selection was the norm with a few unique offerings. Wife had fresh housemate pasta with homemade sauce and fresh vegetable.

Description

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
