one of the better restaurant for larger groups since there's a lot of room in the basement. Cellars are nice looking, bit old wine cellar. Acoustics are better than in most of the older restaurants in this part of town. Food is pretty good but still the typical classic madrid dishes, very heavy on the pork and protein.

...for meat lovers and for lovers of a traditional, wooden, warm Spanish taberna. The place is amazing with big paintings and a nice medieval atmosphere. I got the traditional cocinillo which is extremely good and an experience I would personally suggest. Wine list is complete and with nice Spanish discoveries, price is within the average for a central, traditional restaurant.

It was the best meal we'd had in a while. We stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around La Latina during lunch hourls - it was almost empty and I guess they were getting ready to close for siesta. I am glad we had a chance to eat lunch there - the food is truly delicious, big portions and high... More

We shared a plate of mixed vegetables and tomato and tuna salad for starters. Our mains included cod (delicious) and partridge and beans, and oxtail. All good. The dessert included pears in wine and cheesecake (Spanish style). Including wine and coffee the bill came to 43 euros each. Staff were friendly and efficient but not very fluent in English.

Very elegant restaurant developed on two levels (ground and underground) well known establishment in Spain, decorated all in the style of the 17th century and inspired into the character of Capitàn Alatriste ( famous novella by Arturo Perez-Reverte) Fine dinning with excellent wines.

Someone recommended this place since the place we really wanted was closed . Nice decor, attentive service and good and uncomplicated food are the key features of this restaurant. The only turn off was that the only available area for siting was outside and there were people smoking. We would have preferred to be inside and sit with the staff... More

Although pricey the manchego was worth every penny. Good wine. Good cheese and good service. Found this place by accident and glad we did. We will be back....

We chanced upon this restaurant as we were looking for dinner one evening. Steaks on another table looked good, so we stopped and were glad we did. We all had a different meal - steak, lamb chops and lamb shank - and all were well cooked and delicious. The sides - roasted red peppers, salad and big, chunky fries -... More

We came upon this restaurant by chance and it looked quite busy but thankfully we asked for a table. The menu was varied to suit everyone. We chose gazpacho followed by 2 mains of salmon and lamb chops. They were perfectly cooked. Amazing flabours. Delicious vegetables. We shared a chef made dessert of filo pastry and cream custard. The service... More

Staying in La Latina

Neighbourhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighbourhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighbourhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.
