We arrived at our Airbnb apartment at 9:30 in the evening after our flight from the U.K. and our host recommended this place on the corner of Lope de Vega and Calle San Augustin. The food was wonderful, traditional Spanish dishes, generous in portions and...More

This was our first place for lunch in Madrid having arrived the afternoon prior. The place was recommended by the manager of the hostel we were staying at, who praised it as family run and good value. I expected to see some sort of special,...More

Very small bar, but how much space do you need for a cold drink (served with a tapa). Good tapas de casera. And they have a small dining room to make it complete. One of those very old Madrid bars. When they're used by local...More

Recommended by cousin. Very small and local. Menu is pretty limited and has some traps. Beware of fish dishes. Service was good. A little too local for our taste.

Great local option. No menus with pictures. A real place. I got a plate of grilled asparagus (after looking for days), sardines and two glasses of red wine. All for about 12 euro. I ate at the counter and heard no English the entire time....More

We thoroughly enjoyed our last night in Madrid, thanks in part to Mariano. The homey atmosphere and delicious food was just what we were looking for. We had no room for dessert, but couldn't pass up the complimentary cookies.

Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once
home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de
Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The
neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich
heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes
from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to
them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas
receives a fair amount of spillover from the center —
