Popped in here around 2100 on a weeknight, was only one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived, but within 30 minutes the place was full, there only around 10-12 tables so it gets busy quickly. There seemed to only be one waiter, who was on top form, he seemed to be everywhere, all the time and the service... More

My girlfriend and I had the best dinner of our whole trip in this nice little restaurant. The waiters were really appealing and friendly and the food was simply amazing. The actual reason why we came there was that it was the only tapas bar we found that carried Dates with Bacon which is my favorite tapa. Unfortunately when we... More

Stopped in at 8:30 the other night. They opened the door for us as it was still locked but we are from the states and were starving. Our server was great and spoke english really well which for Madrid is welcome. (not that I speak Spanish very well) FYI, wine in spain is cheap and I mean cheap from what... More

The place is very simple in terms of design and appearance (too simple I would say). The smells from the kitchen can be clearly heard in the sitting area which is somewhat annoying. Not many tables and not much space in between - in the evening becomes super loud. The food is average - eatable but not something you would... More

We took friends visiting Madrid to this place, without knowing it beforehand, and were not disappointed. Small place, good food, some creative things, pleasant service.

Good food and great service! A "must" to visit if you are going to Madrid! The food is excellent especially the Seafood rice, grilled octopus in foamy creamy potato and the freshly made tuna tartar. We've enjoyed our visit in this small local in the heart of Chueca! They have a great service too! All of their staff are very... More

We chose this restaurant because of location and ta reviews. It was quiet on a week night to our advantage but busy on weekends. One of the best meals ever! The octopus with potatoe foam was angelical. Every recommendation our waiter made was on spot. The wine, tikki masala mussels divine sauce that we asked for a spoon to keep... More

We went to this restaurant on the back of Trip Advisor reviews and we were a little bit disappointed by the experience. The tapas were average (except for the delicious tuna tartar) and we waited a lot for our tapas to be served. On a more positive note the staff is great and attentive.

Gastromaquia is in the gay neighborhood of Madrid. This restaurant is small, but service and food is excellent. We got the fried goat cheese with honey and basil oil, octopus with foamed potatoes, and the black rice paella. The goat cheese is served with bread and is so savory. My husband is not a fan of goat cheese, but he... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
