Love the traditional selection of cakes, paestries and sweets, most of them from well known Spanish convents; some of these cakes keep their original recipe from the Middle Ages and their ingredients are natural. It is a luxury to taste such a rare variety of...traditional sweets. Caellum is probably the only place in Spain and Catalonia with these assortment of delicious sweets, biscuits and cakes. You can find here the famous polvorones, yemas de santa Teresa, torrijas, turrones, etc. And tartelettes made in Barcelona with a North European accent.More

What a wee gem in the heart of city centre. It has quintessential charm of painted tables, chairs, wooden floors and the cutest loo I've been in. All homemade cakes by local nuns are a delicious delicacy albeit at the higher price range, however it...was all part of the ambience and experience and well worth it. Friendly helpful staff sealed the rating. A must to visit and drink in the atmosphere for a while. So glad we 'popped' in🥰More

We were expecting something really tasty cause we've seen great reviews and the places we had cakes in Barcelona were a really good, but we were disappointed, very hight prices for tasteless pastry. We waited a long time for somebody to take our order, and...they didn't give any recomandatios or a good description of what we could order.More

Very nice quaint café in Barcelona! We were a group of 4 who discovered it by chance while walking around Barcelona. We had to wait a few minutes as it is small and was very crowded, but it was worth it ! I had some...cake made with nuts/almonds and an orange coulis on top, delicious ! All the other pastries and cakes on display looked equally scrumptious. It is crowded and very small, nonetheless we had a great time and would recommend it!More

I like the history of the place and it is really charming, just is it small and usually full. The cakes and pastries are super tasty and homemade but they are quite expensive, and also you have to ask what is everything since they don't...put labels or anything. The beverages are more affordable. In general, I like the place but it is too expensive for the piece you get.More

I don't have social anxiety, but my visit to Caelum made me feel like I do! First of all: it is a beautiful store. Everything looks deliciously wrapped and packaged. Apparently there is an ancient mikveh beneath the store, but it didn't seem to be...open (I tried to ask but was ignored - this was not on a Tuesday and it was past 3:30pm as they advertise). I'm very interested in Jewish history so this would have been amazing to see. However when I tried to sit down and order a coffee I was just totally ignored by all three employees. I felt like a ghost, or like I was doing something wrong. To top it off, none of the products - whether at the front of the store, wrapped up, or in the window - have any descriptions, prices, etc. making it extremely hard to judge one's budget. I have wanted to visit Caelum for years and was so disappointed by the service/lack of pricing that I just left empty handed. So sad.More

Hate leaving negative comments, but this time I have to. The cafe has very convenient location, right in the center of the Gotico. They sell artisan food and delicacies that are prepared in the monasteries of Spain. This sounds very inviting. But this is the...only advantage of visiting this cafe. Since you never know what the price of one piece of cake is (the prices are not displayed), we were very unpleasantly surprised to know that a little cup of coffee, a cup of hot chocolate and 2 pieces of cake cost us 17 Euros!! It's way too expensive for Barcelona. Seems like they don't want their clients to return to them. The cakes were nice, but what we have ordered definitely doesn't cost what we have paid. If they want their clients return, they have to change something about their pricing policy.More

Friendly, cosy cafe and shop which smelt of sugar and spice and all things nice! Right in the heart of the Gothic quarter. Wide selection of speciality cakes and sweet pastries from nunneries around Spain. The yolk was an almondy yellow confection with the texture...of an egg yolk. The chocolate truffle cake was dark and rich - easily shared by two. Wide assortment of coffee and tea offered. We went with local friends and it was busy on a Sunday afternoon but luckily we got a table.More

Stepping into the beautiful space already felt like a treat. Service was slow, but kind and friendly. The cake display was mesmerising, though we opted to start with some goat cheese toasts and jams. Those were very good. Their hot chocolate contains no milk, which...was a treat. We had to wait a while until we received an explanation on the different pastries, as they do not appear in the menu. I wish I could say otherwise, but the cakes we tried were underwhelming, as we found them too sweet and dense and fairly bland otherwise. The downstairs area was sealed off during the day, which was a shame, as I was hoping to see the remains of the ancient Jewish baths. The upstairs was otherwise crowded, despite it being February. I intend to call in again quickly before leaving Barcelona, to purchase some treats and gifts. I have my eye on their wonderful selection of packaged chestnuts.More

Caelum is a tea room and pastry shop, selling jams and all sorts of sweets. The gorgeous front window display is sure to tempt passers-by with cakes, tarts and pastries. After being seated, I walked over to the cake display to check it out. A...sign by the cake table stated that it was not self serve, so we waited until the waiter came over to us. He named every single cake in the window, as well as the smaller pastries on a tray. The almond and lemon sponge cake was so light and fluffy. I practically demolished the whole thing by myself. I also ordered a coffee and chocolate opera cake, which was equally good with a cappuccino. Good service and delicious sweet treats. Worth a visit. Note apparently there is an underground part which I didn't know about!More
