I was the only traveler at this local eating house - once again thanks to the Lonely Planet guide book. If you like seafood as fresh as possible and served Tapas style then this cafe/restaurant is worth wandering through a labyrinth of side streets and counting the house numbers! You'll know when you've reached the right place from the noise... More

We are from New Zealand and were recommended to come here when we visited Barcelona. We were pre-warned that the atmosphere isn't a 'nice' restaurant but the food makes up for it. We arrived and were kindly given a seat, and explained the menu. We chose a few tapas to share and it arrived promptly. The food was outstanding. Good,... More

Tiny place, extremely busy and be ready to wait 20 and up to 45 minutes, had several tapas, most of them were good, some very good. If you are looking for a local traditional tapas bar, this is one of them, not fancy but good food.

I couldn't have picked out a better place for lunch on our last full day in Barcelona. Staff were very happy to explain the menu and make suggestions etc. The bustle of locals popping in for a quick bite, a leisurely lunch and/or just to show-off the new baby was a fantastic setting for some wonderful, authentic tapas. The menu... More

This was our last meal in Spain, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to go. There was a long wait to get a table, but it was absolutely worth it. We ordered, ate, then ordered again because it was all so delicious!! Standout dishes were the scampi and the grilled squid -both of which we had twice. We... More

No menu, the waiter just tells you what today's specialties are. First we got a nice spicy Bomba each, rolled an fried by grandma. Then we had mussels, the tastiest calamari a la plancha I ever ate, grilled artichokes, baby clams and more. Unfortunately too late for the gamba's. The place was quite noisy and full of people, even waiting... More

Barcelona can be a bit expensive for a nice meal and drink so we found this place looking for cheap meal. It was the best discovery and highlight for our whole trip. The tapas are really good, with their must try ‘bombas’. It is run by a family and the whole place gives a homely and local atmosphere which makes... More

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
