This place is really cool and unique. They don't give you a menu as they get everything fresh and essentially decide your meal for you. They will ask if there's anything you can't eat, but I would highly recommend just letting them take the reins! This is not a place for you if you like predictability and control. You will... More

Very nice restaurant serving a variety of sea food. Very expensive however and we felt like they were doing as a favor for eating 40minutes before closing for afternoon. The food was very well prepared, the tuna carpaccio was amazing. Recommended although with caution for the time. Very friendly staff.

Great spot in Barcelona, delicious seafood and tapas. Love sitting at the bar and enjoying everything and anything that comes out of the kitchen. Freshest seafood, tapas and A+ tortilla. Have recommended to many friends and always a good time had by all.

We had read about Cal Pep in several articles and were sure we couldn't get a table. So we went on the early side of the dinner service (which is plenty late enough for most Americans!), expecting to eat at the bar and got a table for three in the main room. Without ever looking at a menu, we were... More

This is the Barcelona experience everyone should have. They open at 7:30 and you should be in line by 7 pm. They ask if you're allergic to anything or if there are things you won't eat. Then it begins: they just start serving you the most delectable food. You can see the trays of fresh veggies behind the bar. And... More

Went there for lunch with my friends. It's small tapas bar where you sit at the counter. We came in and waiter asked us do we have any allergies and what food do we like and then offered us tapas selection for 4 people. Then dishes start arriving plate after plate. Amazing food. Simple but so fresh and tasty. Had... More

Went on a recommendation from a friend. Best advice was to line up early! We were in line before they re-opened for dinner and scored two spots at the bar. We loved that it was chefs choice and were very happy with everything we were served, especially the monk fish! It was dynamic, delicious, and one of the best meals... More

My favorite place in town. Simple, straightforward quality food. Razor clams are delightful and the tuna tartare is excellent. A little chaotic in a fun kind of way, but that adds to the charm. Do not miss.

There was a queue waiting for the restaurant to open - luckily we got the last seats at the bar. We were brought a selection of tapas - some better than others. The baby squid was the best; also the tuna tartare.

We came to this restaurant based on our friend chef recommendation. Waiter just asked us what we like to eat and that was it for taking our order. There is no menu or price list. No tables too, you just sit at the counter. However the food was the best I have ever had in my life. A lot of... More

Description
Cal Pep offers a fresh and bright culinary experience with easy and quick preparations. Our restaurant concept grew from the idea of sharing the dishes, their tastes and flavours, in a 'tapas'-style. Faithful to this style, Pep invites us to enjoy light, exquisite and extremely varied dishes. Cal Pep is authentic Mediterranean cuisine, reflecting Pep's personal style and incorporating seasonal ingredients. You will enjoy fish, shellfish and fresh produce, all prepared with Pep's originality and flair. Welcome and happy dining! For a truly great tapas place, sit at the bar at old-school Cal Pep, Thomas Keller's vote for the best food in Europe. -- The Guardian The 'Tapas Institution' of Barcelona. There is no shtick here apart from superbly fresh seafood, served simply and on plates designed for sharing. -- The Telegraph

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day.
