On our way to the Montjuïc Castle, we walked pass this restaurant. A lovely restaurant sitting on a quiet street caught our attention. We decided to have some food before continuing our journey. We sat outside and enjoyed the warm Autumn sunbeams. The food was way beyond our expectation. Artisan bread, tasty olives, freshly made pasta made our afternoon in... More

Hidden away from all tourist traps, Xemei is a welcoming and needed experience in Barcelona food scene. This Venetian place is completely produce driven, both on food as in the wine program! Our special crawfish, just barely hit the grill with a touch of their own olive-oil, butter, parsley and fresh lemon is as good as crawfish can be. Complemented... More

Cutting to the chase this is some of the best food I ever ate. Now it might have something to do with the fact that I just got off a red eye flight from New York and was eating along but I couldn't believe how good it was. I stated with the Octopus. It was served very simply with roasted... More

We ended up by chance to the restaurant and we had a lunch treat. We thought it is going to be a neighbourhood restaurant and we ended up to say it is one of the best meals in Barcelona. Fresh fish, original italian ingredients and recipes and nice and friendly staff.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday night after reading some amazing reviews online. Barcelona is now bursting at the seams with tourists and what used to be the greatest city for food is now being colonised by tourist traps and pretentious new restaurants. Xemei is a true gem of a place- the location away from the hustle and bustle, the... More

We were walking back from Monjuic and came through Poble Sec a neighbourhood in the Sants Monjuic district of Barcelona. The restaurant on Sunday was full but they managed to squeeze us in for Sunday lunch. The waiter was really helpful and it looked pretty much like many locals ate here often. The servings are big as we were advised... More

although the terrace was fully booked we got table near an open window next to the street. this is not your typical italian eatery..it has new (to me at least) creative fare, served well on the plate with nice flavours and combinations. portions are not huge but correct. good choice of interesting wines. service was quite quick--correct, as this is... Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
