I have never eaten at Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck but I have heard that the food there is more of an experience than a meal and Etxanobe is the same. The food is great, but it is not the best I have eaten by a...More

We took our adult granddaughter to eat here during a two day trip to Bilbao. We are all into good restaurants and good food. We chose the tasting menu and everything was good but not the best Michelin star we have eaten at. The waiter...More

On this vacation we had dinner at nine different restaurants in the Basque/Cantabria regions of Spain. In many regards this (one-star) restaurant was the best of all. We had the Menú Gastronómico at €83 which entitled us to choose any five dishes from the a...More

It was not easy to find, if you did not know that it was atop the Music Hall. When you get there, the view of the river and the north bank is amazing. Service is perfect - prompt and efficient yet warm. And the tasting...More

We went as a party of six and were welcomed by the owner. We chose the Expression taster menu, and thoroughly enjoyed every course. Each was different, with distinct flavours and textures. At €83, including wine, the value was excellent, and the service friendly and...More

Unlike another Bilbao restaurant I just reviewed, Etxanobe absolutely deserves its fame and reputation. We had the Chef's Menu - every little delicate course was startling and sublime. I won't give the game away - but one dish that stood out for us involved beans...More

The long tasting menu, offered in few options, is creative and sometimes surprising. Like for a Michelin star restaurant, both menu and wines for pairing with food are at really reasonable prices. Grat location and view from the terrace tables. Good service.

Very stylish restaurant but overpriced for what you get. Of course Michelin places vary but not remotely one of the best.

What can I say? The ambience, the service and the food were all superb. We had the chef's special menu with wine pairing. Every course was a taste sensation. Chef came to our table to make one of the desserts with liquid nitrogen. A real...More

Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.
