We popped in to Mandoya in the off-chance of getting a table for lunch and were welcomed warmly. That said, we were pretty much the only diners for the first hour, being more on English lunchtime than Basque! Language was a small barrier, but there are English translations in the menu, and the waitress that spoke good English was assigned... More

It looks a little fancy with its white tablecloths and wine glasses, but it's simply, well prepared, local fare. Nothing to get excited about, but if you want to try local specialties, a very pleasant spot, with good service, to try it out.

My food was cooked exactly as ordered. The vegetables were fresh and the meat was tender. The staff is very nice and friendly as well as the owners who are always catering to your needs. The place is nice and clean, traditional and yet with a modern flair. And serves locals as well as tourists. The prices are fair and... More

Elegant but traditional decor in the heart of the old town. The food and wine were excellent and the service very good. Mainly full of locals and we managed to overcome the language problems. Very good value.

From other reviews, the website and the actual appearance of the restaurant you could get the impression it was quite a decent place, unfortunately the first impression was rather misleading for us. We decided to go for a main course and dessert from the a la carte rather than the tasting menu. My wife's first choice, suckling lamb chops was... More

A long established restaurant in the old town serving traditional fare. The food was OK but not startling good. Friendly staff.

Charming typical spanish restaurant. Tables well spaced with added descrete screens for privacy. Speedy swervice but as in all Spanish restaurants if one of you finishes before the other they simply whip your plate away. Even though we said we were not in a hurry they processed us through in double short time. You never felt pressured BUT.... Excellent basic... More

We visited after reading Tripadvisor reviews. They were short staffed. We got our starters and main courses at different times so I had nearly finished mine by the time my partners arrived. Starters were pricey but tasty. The main course fish dishes were tasteless and came without any sides.

Dear Sir/Madam. We are very sorry to hear about your critics. Mandoya has been running for more than 60 years and it always has been known for iits high standards. Nevertheless we would like to do some comments about some of the issues. First, you have to know that starters and first dishes come separate in the Basque Country as... More

I had a wonderful time at Mandoya. I had a bacalao al pil pil and it was so tasty. I am Portuguese so I was super curious about the Basque way of cooking bacalao. It was yummy! As I was traveling alone, I also appreciated all the attention I got from the staff. Really nice people! I will definitely recommend... More

Absolutelly delicious food with excellent Service. We wanted to have a selection of typical food and especially seafood on our last night in bilbao. Mandoya offered a wide selection of dilicious meals of fresh Food. The Service was very good and friendly although not english speaking.
