This was on the recent list of pintxos bars recommended in the Guardian so decided to investigate. In the event we went on a Sunday night to celebrate my birthday. Service was interesting/ entertaining. Having walked by in the afternoon and booking a table with the barman when we arrived at the allotted time there was no booking. After a bit... More

Indeed a feast for the eyes, because the owners have preserved in perfect condition the glory of this old establishment, founded in 1903. You look around and can't have enough. Lively place - you can sit inside or outside to enjoy your coffee - lunch - dinner - pintxos. A step away from a major department store offers anything anyone... More

Stopped for lunch and the only menu was the menu for the day. Very limited and service was brusque and not overly friendly. Felt pressured to make a decision quickly so we did. Food was good, but I had the beef sirloin that was way undercooked. When did Spain start eating raw beef. I prefer "cocido" but they don't seem... More

What a fabulous place. We had the menu al dia - incredible value at 15 Euro for 3 courses, bread and a bottle of Rioja. Food was delicious - we even came back for breakfast the following morning.

On my first night in Bilbao, I wanted a good meal in a good restaurant and after wandering the streets for a while, I came across this one. Had a problem on entering and was not warmly welcomed but probably this was due to language difficulties. From then on, I had an excellent meal and I chose the set meal... More

Cafe Iruna is located at the Jardines Albia, near the San Vicente Martyr Church and in between a whole bunch of other restaurants and cafes. It was easily the busiest restaurant on the square, and with good reason because the restaurant is a must see. The food is fine. Typical Spanish cuisine, somewhat simple at times but pretty decent. The... More

Cafe Iruna is a wonderful place to stop for a snack and a beer or wine. There are lots of tables so there is plenty of room-- advice: come early for the best choices!!

Called in around 7pm after a visit to the Guggenheim, on the strength of good reviews on here. A surly waiter told me the kitchen wouldn't be open until 8:00 despite the fact that the place was full of people eating. I might have taken it personally except he did the same to a couple who wandered in after me.... More

Cafe Iruna is an institution in Bilbao, serving food and drink in its bar and dining room since 1903. The bar side is decorated with early 20th century period tiles advertising sherry and other spirits. Enjoy a coffee, snack, or drinks on this side. On the other is the neo-Moorish decorated dining room that invites you to sit for hours... More

We went to Cafe Iruna for Breakfast. A massive choice of sweet and savoury food: Croissants, cake, Pinchos, variations of egg etc. etc. Very beautiful cafe that invites to stay longer and longer.
