My wife and I were recently on Malaga Spain visiting her son and daughter-in-law. We asked them about a good restaurant for good food Paellas. They had recently been to the Buenaventura TapasBar (searched Trip Advisor) for a birthday celebration and raved about the Tapas and Paellas. I checked the internet for hours of operation and location. After a brief afternoon closure, it opened again at 19:30. We informed another couple to meet us there for Dinner. Its location is just outside the old town in an obscure narrow street. Walked by the ‘Calle’ the 1st time, but asked directions and ultimately found it. We were about an hour early. The front door was open and we walked in; the owner, Juan Molina, noticed us. To our dismay, the place was under renovation, and had been for a week. We explained our situation of meeting another couple in 45 minutes and since it was cold outside, we also asked if we could just sit at the bar to wait for them. No problem from the owner – with a smile. Before we knew it, he was behind the bar and brought out several wine glasses and three bottles of Spanish red wine and asked if we would like some. Naturally, we did not object. He was obviously proud of the good quality wines in Spain. He even gave us new glasses for each variety. My wife’s rudimentary Spanish was tested as we learned more about him, his restaurant and his various travels about Spain. He next took out a couple of plates of local olives, also very tasty. To say the least, we were amazed at his hospitality. One of the wines he gave us was a special selection only available from a local producer. He personally picked them up. It was excellent. Our friends walked in around seven, just after our 3rd glass, more glasses were produced. The next thing we saw was a plate of select Spanish ham and more olives. WOW! Upon out departure, we were presented with two bottles of his ‘special’ wine. We tried to compensate him – despite our pleadings, it was unheard of; he would not accept anything! He also gave us the names of a couple of places in the old town where the food was good. We weren’t disappointed. It is heartening to see such hospitality and congeniality towards total strangers. We can only reward him by voicing our pleasure and providing this review about him personally, and unfortunately, not about his food. If we ever return, we are sure to bring some of Ontario’s famous ice wine that we are sure he will enjoy. John Barbowski, Jana Oldfield Toronto, Canada

Leave the tourist trail and walk a few meters north. It’s well worth it, you will find a place with outstanding food and professional and good-humoured service. We had a few tapas to start and then bacalao and duck for main courses, all lovely prepared. Our tween enjoyed herself, too - and this is a place where you can bring the whole family.

Buenavista charmed us from the very beginning with its location, on the narrow, not busy street in the centre. Then it didn't stop charming us for the whole evening. The design of the restaurant is quite unique with pieces of art on the walls that are also for sale in contribution to local artists. In the background you can hear a mellow playlist which is perfect for talking and is not overwhelming. The staff was extremely friendly, and very caring about wellbeing of the guests, they spoke both Spanish and English. The dinner was just amazing - we had paella and it was one of the best ones I have ever tried, full of seafood and flavours. Next time I'm in Málaga, I'll definitely come back to that place! :)

Don't understand the high rating here, our meal was average at best. Goats cheese salad to start was expensive for what it was (€12 - one slice goat's cheese with an unexciting salad and a couple of strands of caramelised onion!) The ribs had not been slow cooked which is the normal way to tenderize ribs, they were tough and unappetising. My cod in tempura was tasteless and watery and the batter wasnt nearly crispy enough. We had a couple of glasses of red wine served too cold. Service was very efficient however but although the waitress was very friendly the waiter was dour and unwelcoming. I feel I'm being quite generous with my 3/5 rating to be honest.

My wife and I arrived in Malaga from Denmark on our way to Algeciras. We decided to make a brief stopover for lunch in the town for trying some typical Spanish cuisine and for that purpose were fortunate to have chosen for it the Buenavista Gastrobar & Tapas. A very cozy and full of atmosphere place where the friendly and helpful personnel were very prompt in advising me where to find parking while they kept my wife entertained. A well covered table, fresh baked bread, virgin olive oil and a simple but very tasteful appetizer (on the house) put the basis of the magnificent culinary experience that was to follow. We started our lunch with a mouthwatering salad with pieces of avocado, tomatoes, red horn peppers and more, together with a thick slice of a delicious goat cheese that was topped with a caramelized sauce. And then our main course to share, it could not be anything more local than a paella. From the many options we chose paella with lobster. Wow!!! What a satisfying experience, both for our eyes (Buenavista) and for our noses and mouths. The aromas and flavors of the freshly prepared paella are difficult to describe with words, but they were a great celebration for our senses. They are a MUST to experience. All these, together with a couple of glasses of white wine, an excellent service and the relaxed atmosphere for a very reasonable price, made the time to pass so fast and us to regret that we had to leave so early but taking with us an unforgettable and tasteful memory. All in all, five thumbs up or five stars if you prefer. And an advice, do not drive there, take a taxi or walk through the small streets of Malaga’s old town. In this way you will have more time to enjoy Buenavista Gastrobar & Tapas and the many other dishes that we di not have the time to try.

We had a very great paella here in August with my husband (after recognizing there are'nt almost any places to sit down for a dinner if you dont have a reservation in Malaga's center), but here we gave a try to ask and the waitress said we can wait some minutes to another couple paying the check, and it was totally worth it. I had a very strong intention to mention the waitress (her name was on the bill, but i unfortunately dont have it already) who was so kind i dont usually experience that. It was a remarkable experience because of her kindness and willing to understand our poor spanish:))

This was such a magical find in a city that boasts good restaurants, but Buenavista is authentic, seems family-run and takes greater care over their dishes than many other places in the city I've enjoyed meals at. The beef and the lamb dishes are superb, not too filling, but generously portioned and I still remember the taste a month later. I did also appreciate how unhurried the staff were when I clearly wasn't in a rush myself, but they are attentive and the chef came and had a friendly chat with me. Situated down a quiet but pretty, historical street, I really recommend Buenavista.

After being told they didn’t have our reservation they succumbed and served us a delightful dinner Home made partridge pate, Fine Jason Serrano, Sous Vide Smoked Pork, The tenderest Casseroled Beef Cheek with mushrooms and ultra creamy potatoes. Beautiful Mille Fueille. Nice wines and beer. Coffee £79 inc tax and service. High Quality Rustic food with great service. USA need to learn from these type of restaurants in Europe.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is great; the staff is friendly; and the food is wonderful. I especially recommend the arroz negro (black rice with seafood and squid ink). The cheesecake is also very good. Even the white bread was spectacular. Coming from Barcelona, you would think the alioli here would not be as good but it was even better! The black rice was for 2 people or more but the chef made a plate for 1 just for me. After lunch, the chef personally came to ask me about the food and my experience, making the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

It was the most heartful, warm and delicious restaurant I have ever been in Malaga. The atmosphere in the restaurant was amazing with so many real art pieces by the local artist students and some of the degital pieces. All the staffs are so well educated and warm welcome for the guests. We been to some of very famous restaurants in the city center, the waiters are so rude and even didn’t want to explain, this restaurant offered us to all the dishes to have half potion, so that we could try so many delicious dishes there. The food was so so delicious and absolutely amazing all are cooked by the owner chef of the restaurant. It was completely different from the other places. Even if we were so full we couldn’t help ordering the deserts and they were so so delicious, after all finish eating so much the price of the food was much more reasonable than the famous restaurant there. If you are looking for some local nice serves and excellent quality Spanish food, I am highly recommend this restaurant than anywhere else. here is the menu we had!

We came here afternoon, it was quiet so we sat and order a soup to share. The garlic soup with eggs was by my measures more of a pepper soup, but still it was very tasty with those meatballs. I recommend it. Our main course was lamb with potato puree and ratatouille. The meat was delicious and the sides were quite interestingly arranged. When we came into restaurant, it was quiet, but after a while it was buzzing with people. It could be loud during the afternoon. The service was nice.

I understand the raving reviews as it is a real treat to have dinner at this cosy restaurant that might not attract visitors without TA. It is located in a small alley, only accessible by foot, but even so outdoor dining possible at about 10 tables. Nice, friendly, efficient staff. Good variety of food, though no tapas. Basically about half of the dishes, both veggie, fish or meat, you can order half size. Good if you are a party of 2, 4-5 of these will do. All very tasteful. Ok selection of wines, but they are all a bit the same. A number of albarinos, verdejos and temperanillos, very reasonable priced. Oh, and they have a large selection of paella, which looked really nice, but way too much for 2 ppl. They also serve steaks. Definitely worth checking out.

This restaurant is the perfect example of a restaurant not to judge on its appearance/location. Only a 500m walk from Plaza de la Merced, hidden in a small street you will find this lovely place. The waiter is so, so friendly and provides really good service with a personal touch! We went a bit crazy and ordered 6 dishes. Because almost everything is served as a full portion (racion) but also as a half portion (media) we were able to try a lot :D every single dish was so tastefull and carefully plated, bringing a simple tapa to the next level. A really big THANK YOU for the delicious evening!

Tucked away in a back alley found the food average waitress delivered bred rolls and a free appetiser which was a strange combination sardines with crisps. Which wasn’t great. We went for the cod tempura which was good but had some bones left in. I went for the suckling pig which was nice but the beef cheek wasn’t great lack of seasoning. This restaurant has obviously a good chef but there’s to big a menu choice some dishes will be great other stuff not so good. The reason we booked was through trip advisor reviews but I was a bit disappointed and for that reason it’s 6 out of 10. The top Ten restaurants in Malaga have one thing in common limited choices
