I visited the Felsenkeller on a local recommendation. They brew several different beers on the premises and so I decided to try a couple. The first, their own pilsener, was excellent. A nice restaurant outside the centre of Weimar. The locally brewed beer was very good and staff friendly. The food was fine but not outstanding and doesn't beat other places.

The building is impressive already at first sight, beautiful stone walls. The service was a bit brisk; 4 beers are on tap, not spectacular but all correctly brewed. The interior seems dark; the biergarten is rather small.

Highly recommended. The beer is made not just in-house, but some of the kettles are right in the dining room. The Braumeister noticed my interest and invited me up on the platform to smell the aromas coming out of the brew kettles and to taste the grains and hops that surrender themselves as ingredients to make this place's awesome beers....
