We were tired after touring around Berlin on foot and found this cafe within the lobby of Zeughaus. The situation inside was a total chaos. Most tables were occupied, while others had leftover food waiting to be cleared. The waiters weren't interested to find you a seat or clear the tables. When we asked a waitress if there were available... More

Very rarely do I eat in a restaurant and find food I have not eaten before but I resolve to try again. We had the Flammkuchen (sold as a French pizza) and it was a nice alternative light snack. Staff were polite and efficient and prices were reasonable.

We stopped in Zeughaus for a short break during our visit to the German Historical Museum. We ordered coffee and cake - very small coffee, cake was average and price was quite high. Our waiter was a tad on the surly side. The museum is wonderful but the restaurant was a disappointment - average fare with questionable waitstaff.

I'm a traveller journalist visiting Berlin and writing reviews of nice places to go for London-based websites and my Instagram @londonfashiontoday. This morning I've chosen to work from Zeughaus located in the Deutschen Historischen Museum where I've seated and ordered a cappuccino. I was planning to work from there during the afternoon and at some point have lunch. I had... More

We really came here only as a break when visiting the German History Museum. Our server was lovely and very friendly, and the food was quite good and reasonably priced. We would not have gone here if we had not been visiting the museum, but certainly would recommend it if you are.

As a break from sightseeing we stopped here for a refreshment break. Ther is a good selection of drinks, we had a rhubarb lemonade and a raspberry white beer, both refreshing. The cakes looked good but not our agenda for this visit. Our waiter was a miserable bloke, never even said thanks as we left. Toilets were ver dark. I... More

Well, time for a break? They do a very nice black forest gateau, and the coffee and hot chocolates aren't bad either.

Food was OK, the wiener schnitzel was a bit too dry but generously portioned. Goose was nice, but also a bit overdone. Service friendly but not on top of things. Prices so-so, lunch for 2 still almost 60 euro.

Just across the canal from the museum island, the restaurant can easily be overlooked during the winter when there is no outdoor service. Inside, past the heavy drapes, is a lovely restaurant with good food at more-or-less reasonable prices. The service is generally good, too, although during peak periods, expect a wait. I've been here a couple of times and... More

Food was good as well. Very assertive and courteous waiters. A bit pricey for Berlin standards. Conveniently located.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
