Went here after the days travels as the menu was full of traditional German grub which we wanted to try. We got seated downstairs in an oldy, typical German cellar, similar to a beer hall.great atmosphere. The waitress was great.got a weihenstephaner Helles original after I debated no having a beer at all. Possibly the nicest lager I've ever tasted and ive... More

We went there for dinner. Despite the usual confusion that comes with large groups, we had great time. The service was friendly and quick. Food was excellent and the beer menu is amazing!

The Weihenstephaner beer is truly superb, at least six on draft and all the ones we tasted were excellent. While the lederhosen clad waiters may seem a tad twee, really the beer is fantastic.

Stopped in on a whim on my way to the train station. The service was incredible and the place was packed to the gills. The server was super attentive, easily accommodated a special food request with the kitchen, and kept the drinks coming quickly, but not too quickly. I didn't expect much, but got a great experience, so I guess... More

Traditional German place for tourists. We only had some beers which were nice, but food seemed to be a bit pricey.

A very touristy Biergarten ideally located on lovely Hackescher Markt. We found a table and 2 seats on the packed shaded terrace in front of the historical cozy tavern. In spite of the mass of customers we were rapidly served our draft Weihenstephan Vitus beers. We ate season asparagus and Bavarian dishes like Bergbauer Schnitzel with baked potatoes, pork knuckle... I asked at my hotel where the best place to eat. Weihenstephaner was recommended, and I was really pleased. My waiter was friendly and helpful; he stood at my table and talked to me for awhile. He knew I was traveling alone and wanted to make my visit to the restaurant comfortable. I told him that I was very hungry... More

We were staying at the Circus Hotel, and Hackescher Markt was a short stroll away. Weihenstephaner was the first brew house we came across when we arrived in Berlin and we visited every day for the next three nights. The cloudy wheat beer had a hint of banana, was delicious and rather strong. After two pints it certainly wouldn't have... More

We spotted this bar and restaurant whilst exploring the Hackescher Markt area of Berlin, it is very close to the station of the same name, amongst a number restaurants in the railway arches and across the cobbled square outside. We chose it for its cosy look and traditional menu of German food, and had dinner and drinks there on a... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
